About 3 weeks ago I got the recall in the mail from GM concerning the column lock on my '97. I sent them a copy of the receipt from Corvettes of Houston showing that I had purchased a bypass kit. They called today to say the case was reveiwed and they are sending me a check. I was so shocked I didn't think to ask how much the check was for, the receipt show that I paid $99.00 for the kit, I'll just wait and see, whatever it is for will be more than I expected.
I submitted a claim without all paperwork as it incidents were 3 years ago and I received almost $600 for CLB, towing, etc.
I got the recall notice a few months ago and immediatley threw it in the trash since I had long ago installed the CLB. Does anybody have the address that was on the recall notice. I want to send my invoice and take a shot at getting a refund. Thanks.
Here is the phone # that was on the letter accompanying the check. 1-800-222-1020, I beleive this will get you to the customer Assistance Center. Hope this helps.
I wonder......I`m the 3rd owner of my `98 MN6 Coupe...will GM track me down for the recall through DMV records?
Only if the previous two owners provided the new owner info to GM. You could also take it to a dealer and have them run your VIN and see what outstanding recalls there are on your car.
Today I phoned GM Customer Assistance at the number provided by Admiral Fairway (800 222-1020) and told the first guy that my 2000 was recalled but that I had already solved the problem and did not need GM to "fix" it. I simply wanted to know who to contact to get the $50 back that I had spent on the CLB. He said I would need a re-imbursement form and that would come from another department and he would need to transfer me to them to take care of that.
The second guy said he would send me the re-imbursement form but that since the re-call was still "open" on my car I would need to take it to the dealer so they could verify that it was indeed "fixed" and then "close" the re-call on my car. Frankly, the whole process sounds like it will ultimately be a waste of time but I am going to play along to see how it unfolds. But, there is NO WAY the dealer is going to take my dash apart and do the re-call work. If it comes to that, I will just forget the whole thing.
