JMO, but I think many would agree. Especially will all he says in his post.
Yep. 4.10s would be great if I were looking for some off the line work, but I'm gonna be highway flying most of the time. The efficiency is more important than raw acceleration at this stage.
I'm looking for a better driving experience for me and better breathing for the motor.
Not EXACTLY a mod, but I would order a set of the jacking pads right away. I did, cause both serviceing AND modding will often require that you raise your C5 up off the pavement. There are a several sponsoring vendors that offer the jacking pads that can be found right here on the forum. Most often these are made from aluminum, with a 'tang' that twist locks into the oval holes on the bottom of the car.
Congrats on joining us in the C5 experience

You should consider cutting down the stock shifter and adding an aftermarket shift ****. If it isn't enough of an improvement then you can always add an aftermarket shifter later.
I was happy with the cut-down shifter and the MGW Gripper shift ****. If all you want is a shorter throw then modifying the stock shifter should suit your needs and save you money.
I'm going to take my time and go slow but this is a good place to start.
I know my first money will go for a shifter. I had a short throw Hurst in my C4 and it made the car a ball to drive. The C5's I've driven have a rowing oar for a shifter so that'll be the first mod.
What are the better shifters for the C5?
that's what i did...b & m ripper i got...then intake, blackwing, stinger, 18 & 19 rims with yoko, long tube header, then predator....
The best performance modification you can make for the money is a 4.10:1 differential gear set. With your 0.50:1 sixth gear you will only be turning 2,150 rpms at 80 mph.
You will be amazed at the difference. It gives you 20% more torque at the rear wheels, which is like adding 70 hp at the crank
Good luck with your decision.
Sorry, but my stock '98 MN6 does 2100 rpms in 6th at just over 100 mph.
Just after the first of the year I'll be joining the C5 brotherhood, picking up my Quicksilver '01 Z51 six-speed for the trip from Chicago to the relative warmth of Fort Worth.
My plan begins with the shifter, the intake and the catbacks.
Probably in that order. The car is going to be a GT machine mostly lots of highway miles across Texas. Not looking for a track star or a show car.
Any recommendations for brands, vendors or alternatives to those above?
Thanks !
First, welcome to the Forum and congratulations on the C5
Go with an intake (many like the Blackwing, I like the VARARAM),
Exhaust - depends on what 'loudness' you are seeking. Do yourself a favor and take the opportunity to listen to different vendors.
Tuner - yopu are in the right location. In Carrollton check out 21st Century (972 417 7177). They are LPE (Lingenfelter). They did the two Vertws in my sig.
