Vacuum leak?
Merry Christmas to all you vetters. Would you believe I am still driving mine on the streets in Montana? 
My girl is making a noise sort of like a quiet washing machine with an accompanying low whistle in the cockpit.
A mechanic said it might be a vacuum leak, and my husband said he thinks so too and knows where it is but cannot get to it.
Everything works fine and it runs like always. But once in a while I detect a slight idle bump.
What does a vacuum leak entail and is it safe to drive til spring when I can get it checked out? We are supposed to get snow soon so my driving will cease and desist til then.

There are vacuum fittings on the back of the manifold that sometimes can give you problems! Here is what they look like.

Sometimes you can spray carb cleaner around the manifold and fittings while the engine is running. If you spray a vacuum leak the engine idle will change.
