I'm thinking about lowering my vette. Is there anything that I should consider before doing this? I do not have headers yet, but thinking about Lt's in the future. What is the ballpark cost to get this mod done?
Thanks.
From: Los Angeles I'm here for a good time, not a long time!
I lowered mine about a month ago, and I have loved it since. And it cost me all of $NOTHING, zero, zilch, NADA. Look up lowering in the Tech portion and you will find exact photos of how to lower your vette. It takes all of about 20 minutes, start to finish.
Heck, if you live in So Cal, come over I'll od it for you.
I dropped mine about 1.5 inch in the back and about 1 in. in the front.

Only thing I can think of is you have to be careful where you drive the car. Steep driveways will result in scrapes and speed bumps will have to be negotiated carefully. Other than that, the look is
with regards to alignment...the rear was still in alignment and the front was BARELY out...the guy did not want to fool with it, but I insisted he adjust it well into the green just to be safe. All and all, it was not out much if any.
how important is the wheel alignment? does the car not drive straight after, or does it just wear out the tires quicker?
Every car is different & every situation is different. Some need alot of correction after lowering some very little, some NONE.
Some need alignment even BEFORE lowering.
Some cars could use an alignment right out of the dealers showroom.
You never know.
Anytime the geometry of the suspension is changed, the alignment is also changed.
Going from OEM C5 rims to CCW's for instance should also call for alignment, or at least a check of the alignment.

Enjoy,
Could you please PM me.. I would love to use your help if I could. :o
I would suggest that you put a hundred or so miles on the car before you get an alignment. Take measurements before you lower and you will notice that it will continue to get slightly lower as time passes and the more it gets driven. Also, if you don't like it after it is lowered (I doubt that will happen) you can raise it back to the exact highth it was before if you have good measurements.
I love the look my lowered vette. I am careful going over speed bumps and driveways. You will get used to being careful. It will become automatic for you. Just wait till your sitting next to another vette that is'nt lowered.
