Default Exhaust installation

I plan on buying a GHL Magnum Plus exhaust in spring. If I just cut off the stock system how high do I have to jack the car up for an easy install? Do I have to jack up both ends or just the rear? Thanks for your help.

Since you're going to cut the stock system, you'll only need to jack the back of the car up high enough to set the rear wheels down on a set of Rhino ramps or the rear crossmember or a set of jacking pucks on the frame rails on a set of jackstands at a low setting. Here's a link to an exhaust install. He pulled his stock setup out without cutting, and so, had to raise it much higher than you'll need to.

At least 36" off the ground, to take off the old system without cutting it, from what I understand from people here.

I agree with Patches. Your new exhaust should come in two pieces which negates the need to get the car about 3 feet in the air. Just put it up on the Rhino Ramps or on some jack stands and you should be able to have an easy install.

OK. What if I want to do the straight up bolt-on install?

I just installed GHL Bullets on mine last month. Jacked the rear up, and set it down on 4-2x12's under each rear tire, which gives you about 8" extra working room.

From there, I unbolted the flanges in front of the rear axle, and then unbolted the hangars. Let the muffler lay down on the garage floor, and used a Lisle Exhaust Pipe Cutter to safely cut the stock system in front of the mufflers.

Each side was properly disposed of, in the trash bin, where the stock exhaust system belongs. The Bullets were in 3 pieces - over the axle, the resonator assembly, and then the tailpipe section.

I slipped the over-axle pipe in, and tightened it at the flanges. Then, just followed with the next 2 pieces. Repeated for the other side, then tightened the hangars. Then I was ready to line everything up with a level and tighten the clamp behind the rear axle. Then I lowered the car back to the ground, used the level again to line up the tailpipe/tips, and tightened the clamp on that section.

It's a breeze. If you have a floor jack, I don't know why someone would pay a shop for lift time. Then again, I'm probably younger than the average Corvette owner demographic.
