Default 1999-2001 you pick

My buddy has always wanted a Vette and he likes the 1999-2001 and they also fit his budget. He wants an auto coupe. Ive heard that there was one year in particular that had oil consumption problems. He wants to avoid that year. What year was that??? All things considered what year 99' 00' 01' would you pick out of these 3????

2001 seems to be the year that pops up the most with oil consumption problems but I've heard problems going back all the way to 97 although not very often. I'd try to find an 00 since it would have the Y2k wheels although the real deal maker would be the one with the lowest miles and best kept exterior.

I have a 2001 but I am not having a problem with oil consumption at all.
My 2001 was built very late in the year 2001 production year.

I have an 02, and I would recommend the lastest version of most anything you can get.

I would recommend a '03 .. what exactly is the difference between a '01 - '03? (aside from the fuel tank system)

I would go with one that was/is well maintained / low miles / and priced to suit the budget.

Yep, the level of care from the previous owner is gonna be as big a factor as any, if not the biggest. Just look for the best condition in his price range, check the carfax, etc.

I have an 01 and no oil consumption problems. 01's are a litte more notorious for oil consumption , yes, but understand that all engines will naturually burn a little bit of oil...especially when it comes to high performance engines.

I have a 2000, but the year should not be his only factor.

The 2001 had the oil consumption problems, but so did my '00. Either the '99 or '00 would be a good choice since they both had similar options available. The '00 came with the thin 5-spoke wheels.

I had a 99 auto coupe. In 19,600 miles, it never used a drop of oil.

I was looking for a 01 or 02. In 01 they have a more advanced active
handling system, ls6 intake, bigger driveshaft more horse (5) and more
torque. Although some of these may just be related to the 6 speed. For
the seats of the pants feel I'm not sure you could tell the difference. I'd say find the most well taken care of model in the budget.

So it sounds to me like it all depends on the condition and you wouldnt really avoid any 99-2001 vettes they are really all the same it depends on how well they were taken care of all together. Is that what you mean????
