PATROL CAR CRASHES AFTER CHP PURSUIT IN PALO ALTO

PALO ALTO (BCN)
A pursuit by the California Highway Patrol led to a crash involving a
CHP patrol car in Palo Alto this afternoon, the CHP reports.
Around 4 p.m. a CHP officer pulled over a black 2004 Chevrolet Corvette
driven by a man described as an African American male on southbound U.S. Highway 101 just north of San Antonio Road, reports the CHP.
After talking with the officer the driver fled the scene in the Corvette
at a high rate of speed, according to the CHP, and the officer began
pursuing the car.
The Corvette continued south on Highway 101 until it exited at San
Antonio Road and onto city streets at which point Palo Alto police were
contacted, reports the CHP.
Before police could enter the pursuit the Corvette got back on Highway
101 northbound at a high rate of speed, according to the CHP.
The officer tried to position the patrol car to stop the Corvette but
collided with a white Ford truck and then into a Jeep Cherokee, the CHP
reports.
The Corvette continued on at high rate of speed and was seen by
witnesses weaving in and out of traffic at speed up to 100 mph, the CHP reports, and the officer ended the pursuit to help those involved in the collision.
A small fire that started underneath the patrol car was quickly
extinguished and the CHP reports no injuries in the collision.
The driver of the Corvette is still at large.
