Default installing chrome exhaust plate

Hey all

Got a chrome exhaust plate for xmas and want to put it on.

Does anyone have a suggestions on cleaning and prepping the area? Or can I just wash and place on?

Use some denatured alcohol and really thoroughly clean the area. The tricky part is to get the thing on straight and level. Take your time and if possible get it up on a lift. Once those things are on with the double-sided tape, they are REALLY hard to get back off. Good luck.

They look really nice to dress up the back.

Yep...denatured alcohol on the surface.....wipe dry....I placed a level on my knees, held it up against the bottom of the plate.....very lightly..and I can NOT state that enuff..very lightly place the plate against the surface you are setting it on...when you look at the level to see if it is level...Push it on firmly and you should be set.....!!

and watch that tape...it REALLY sticks. You basically get one shot at the placement. Do several "dry runs" before you peel the backing off the tape. You might consider some witness marks with chalk or marker to help you align everything.

All of the above is great info. In addition I used wide masking tape at the top to assist in placing the plate. Once I got it in place I just used the masking tape like a hinge to lift it up and peel away the double sided tape. Swing it back down and it should be right in place. Worked like a champ!

The best part of this information is try to get it up on a lift. I wish I had done this. It will make it so much easier since it is so low to the ground.
