Have a 99' Coupe (Met Pewter) and the other day I found a sheet of Lexan out in our shop that is tinted at darn near the same color.
It measures 4' x 8' and is 3/16" thick.
I am considering roution out a section to fit directly behind the lip between the seats and the rear area so I can completely seal off that area from the front.
It would be removable as would be the channels that hold it in place.
You can see through it with no problem (rear view).
Was wondering if this would help with wind noise at speed with the windows down and the top removed.
May sound crazy, but any thoughts???
Thanks
If I understand your description this would be a vertical partition closing off the back. Your main concern would be to make sure it didn't come loose and get airborne. I wonder what it would to the airflow through/around the cockpit.

Not so crazy. There are a few vendors that sell a partition.
I dont' think your crazy, Ive been thinking about making one to.
I have a cnc router at work along with heat bending capabilities and vaccum forming. Can make one that doesn't block off speakers. Just have to figure out all the dimensions.
I think you are nuts, I agree with mjallen40 and once it is in you then will probably complain about the stereo since you blocked off the rear speaker
just my .02
And why would that be a bad thing? The stock rear bose are nothing to brag about, I think they are just used for fill anyway. No big loss if they are not used.

I have thought about doing something similar but it's always been a passing thought or low priority. Would like to see someone give it a shot though. i'll support your effort with lots of attaboys and applause.

I could form it with the stuff I have to bend in and around the speakers. I'm wondering what the difference would be with the wind etc. with the top off and the windows down.
If nothing else I could make it similar to the cargo cover with a drop down to the back of the seats with a couple of doors and containers for storage.
I'm going to start with a heavy cardboard cutout to get the measurements. Will keep you informed.
I say go for it, what do you have to lose? Sounds like didn't even know you had the supplies until now, and if nothing else you'll get the benefit of having tried it out and might even learn something along the way!
I think somebody is going to end up going to a WHOLE lot of trouble, measuring, trimming, fitting and they're finally going to get themselves a beautiful clear partition.
Then they're going to shut the trunk and blow the thing through the windshield.
I've thought about doing something similar, but not totally out of lexan or plexiglas. I'm not sure what it would do for the wind noise problem. It would probably cut down on some of the swirling with air trying to get into the hatch area, so it might lessen the noise. And it might set up some other undesirable air flows. I suppose you could do a wind tunnel test or perhaps a CFD analysis.
My son's Boxster has a partial plastic screen basically between the two seats. It helps some, but it's also a full convertible.

But..........what if you drilled or cut some holes near the speakers to let the sound through (and decompress the area when the hatch is shut)??????
First we get louder exhausts; then we Frostking for sound proofing; then we build partitions; then we build in high powered sub-woofers; then we get louder exhausts; ... How about we all get those Bose noise cancelling headphones so it's either dead silent (great when the Mrs. in on-board) or we play a CD with exhaust sounds as loud as we want them?
