Default Z06 Battery issues

I recently had my battery replaced under warranty by the dealer. When I got home I took a peek at the battery and discovered they installed the standard batery and not the smaller Z06 battery. When I questioned them about this they informed me that Chevy no longer makes the Z06 battery. Sound fishy to me, what say you? By the way the battery wasn't even the problem.

Not sure about that one.

When mine died, I replaced it with an Optima red top, even though the car was still under warranty. AC Delco batteries are crap.

How long will my battery last? Picking up a new Z16 tomorrow, the dealer had to replace it the other day. It was dead when they went to start it for me. I have a battery tender for when it's in the garage.

I still have the original battery in my '96 CE. !?!

Do not let the Red top drain. They do not like to go dead or near dead. It will usually kill the battery and you will be buying a new one.

Most of the original Z batteries last about 1 1/2 years. Mine went almost 3. Problem is when they go dead, there is no warning. Mine had been sitting for about a week, drove it 10 miles across town, parked it for 30 minutes, when I came back it was so dead it wouldn't even work the gas guage. Absolutely no warning.

Thought Red Tops could sit a lot longer than standard batt's without fear of draining??

R U Serious?!!
1 1/2 yrs on a 6 yr batt?
Funny, before i joined this Forum I or anyone I knew ever had a problem with Delco's. Quite the opposite. I know 2 guys who had their Delco's in vehicles that were hardly driven...& the batt's lasted 8 & 10 yrs! Maybe it's something about the C5.

That is it.

The computers in the car will drain the stock battery in 2 or 3 weeks of inactivity. If the car sat in the dealers showroom for 2 months or before you bought it the battery was sitting there dead because the dealers didn't know better and disconnect it.

That is bad for a battery.

Then some of these garage queens don't get out much so there is a lot of discharge stress to the battery.

OEM battery is junk... Lost mine after 1.5 years in the middle of the summer, thing swelled up like a pumpkin and was splitting at the seams in the Florida heat. Talked to the dealer and they said it was a common problem and the service manager recommened the Optima red top, which I got at Autozone (Sears has it now too). If I had know better, I would have replaced the OEM battery when I bought the car... total junk, IMO.

That's a property of any lead acid battery.
But there's that 3 year free replacement warranty, too.

The problem I always had with Delco batteries is that they seem to start leaking before they stop working. Often within the first year of service.

When my AC delco goes dead I will go to Walmart & get a good battery at a good price with a good warranty.
All batteries die, drive your car once in a while and it will be ok!
The new AC Delco's are top mounted not side mounted so I doubt if they will leak. I have had AC Delco batteries before and had zero problems with them.

My original glass mat Delco battery in my '01 was still doing fine at 3-1/2 years when I decided not to chance it any longer. With their tendency to die suddenly and with little or no warning, I bought a Red Top last spring at an internet price with shipping similar to what a Die Hard would have cost me locally at NTB.

No - If you're going to let it drain, get a deep cycle battery like the Yellow Top. Even better, get a Battery Tender.

I have shop a bunch of vendors and the best I could find was Lectric Limited #708 563-0400. They are factory direct at $15. They the same ones advertised in popular catalogs. They even have a LED monitor with auto shut off. I bought 2 units for both my C3 and C5. I do believe the above posting are correct, there is a lot of current draw with the on board systems of a C5.
Good Luck
