I have shop a bunch of vendors and the best I could find was Lectric Limited #708 563-0400. They are factory direct at $15. They the same ones advertised in popular catalogs. They even have a LED monitor with auto shut off. I bought 2 units for both my C3 and C5. I do believe the above posting are correct, there is a lot of current draw with the on board systems of a C5.
Good Luck
Thanks!! It still amazes me a way hasn't been found to extend the charge life of these batteries to more than a couple of weeks. With a C5 Coupe, a Z06, and two other vehicles to maintain during the winter, it seems like a battery is always dead in one of the Corvettes.
The coupe has a Red Top now and it doesn't seem to hold its charge any longer. Looks like a trickle charger is the only way ...
Sooooo,,,what problem did you have that the new battery did not fix??
Bill C
The electrical system on the coupe has been checked at three different dealerships and by a business specializing in batteries. No problems were found with a malfunction or unusual drain in the system.
I've replaced the batteries on the coupe three times in four years, the last being an Optima Red Top. The Red Top has inadequate power remaining to start the vehicle if it is not driven for about three weeks...
I've had the Z16 for a month and I've had to charge the battery twice.
I wish I knew what problem I'm having that the new batteries aren't "fixing," but whatever it is, it seems to be a universal one that is frequently reported by others..... Any suggestions?
Am I reading here that the red top isn't any better than any other off the shelf battery? This should open a new can of worms.
I didn't mean to imply the Optima Red Top isn't a better quality battery than the factory Delco..... To the contrary.... I would recommend a red or Yellow Top to anyone replacing their Corvette battery.
I'm certainly no expert, but my own experience tells me the Corvette electrical system is the battery drain culprit, and it may be in need of some kind of "tweeking" to improve the performance of all batteries in these cars.
If a trickle charger is the only way I can rely on my battery being charged after sitting a couple of weeks, so be it... I believe most here would agree we can't expect even the finest batteries to hold a charge if the vehicle system depletes its reserve capacity so quickly.
No need for any "flames" from Optima owners... I use 'em too...
