So is the blackwing THAT much better than a Z06 box, or zip tie mod, or cutting a bunch of holes in the stock box?

Can not speak for the ZO6 air box but the stock air box has alot of support ribbing that I feel can effect a smooth airflow. Also the inlet for the filtered air is fairly small. The aftermarket systems rid you of these features.
Blackwing for me. It was my first mod. The car came with Corsa's and and stock factory airbox with no opening (GM didn't open the airbox until later model years) The blackwing was an immediate SOTP change for my car. I looked at the alternatives and the Blackwing for me was far and away the best choice. I wasn't interested in the "ziptie" method and I felt the Z06 airbox would have only been an interim step. I had my heart set on the Blackwing and thats what I did.
If not driving in the rain too much (heavy stuff), I suggest, that aside from the front screens, you buy the "bottom" breather cold air cover.
I'm considering moving up from a K&N stock-replacement element to a Blackwing or a twin-K&N setup, and its vulnerability to rain is my only my only concern. (I do drive my C5 in the rain. )
So, what's the conventional wisdom? And although I know what the "front screens" are, what's a "'bottom' breather cold air cover"?
A Con.. well.. that very noticable sound of air being rapidly sucked into the blackwing as your car purrs in delight. Oh wait.. that's a PRO. No cons. GET ONE.
