Default Count Your Blessings And Contribute

While we are comfortable in our homes enjoying the blessings of the season (and those Vettes snuggled safely) over 117,000 people (so far) have lost their lives......I contributed (a measly) 25 bucks through Amazon.com to the American Red Cross. Hopefully some of you will do likewise.......we are truly lucky

I would urge every one of you to give up one mod or give up smoking or just make a donation. We're talking billions of dollars needed to help people who had nothing to begin with. The scale of this disaster means everyone must give. I'm giving $200 today. I've got a holiday booked to Southern India in January which I booked before this happened. Luckily, where I'm going isn't really affected to any great degree but I'll be taking cash with me.

It will be a long and difficult recovery for that part of the world.

Donating is a fine way to make your concious feel better and help those who are truely in a sad but urgent state of need. THe US and the people of the US always step forwatd when these type of disasters occur.

But I must remind you that that no boats, planes or people came forth to assist when 4 hurricanes slashed across Florida and when we suffered other disasters on the homefront. So maybe we would be better off just keeping out money and action here at home for a change and leave other countries to survive on their own. But then we are americans and that is just not how we react to other people in need.

I forgot to mention that this is the last day of the year and all contributions are tax deductible for 2004 if made to certain organizations such as Red Cross etc..

I'm sure you're not serious.

The UK Government have pledged £50million and already the UK public have donated over £21million. The scale of this is immense - we're talking over 125,000 dead and still rising and millions left without anything in the world - over a hundred thousand dead bodies to find and bury before disease gets a hold.

I think the more prosperous countries are more than capable of organising their own funds and assistance to a large degree (but often choose to spend it elsewhere with respect) but these people have nothing and are almost entirely dependent upon tourism for their income so things will get even worse.

The US also got a huge response to 9/11 and this disaster is of a magnitude so much greater that the two aren't even comparable. So please give a donation. I was in India last year and the exchange rate was about 80 rupees to the pound so about 50 rupees to the dollar. Many people don't earn that a week in India and Sri Lanka.

Leaders lead! The day the US (or in my case the UK) doesn't step up to the plate in situations such as this is the day that I give up the will to live.

I'm sure the isolationist view is not shared here!
