Please excuse me of my ignorance but if you add an X pipe to a stock corvette would it sound any better? Is the X pipe just for smoothing our the exhaust? I just want my corvette to sound a little more aggressive, like a true sports car, but i dont want to drop the 700 dollars or more for a borla or corsa exhuast... is there a fix to my problem or am i just too cheap to own a Corvette. Thanks for your posts
The X-pipe is most effective when used in conjunction with an aftermarket cat-back. Since the stock exhaust is inherently so quiet, you probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Now if you don't want to spend too much, you might want to look into cutouts - either manual or electric. You wouldn't lose the extra 20 lbs that most of us lose when we install Borla Stingers or Z06 titanium cat-backs, but at least you'll have a more agressive sound when you want it for less than half the cost.

I probably would not spend the $200+ on an X-pipe unless you change the mufflers too. You won't notice much difference in the sound with the stock mufflers. You could always check the C5 Parts for Sale section and maybe pick up a nice used set of mufflers for a good price - even a set of titanium ones from a Z06.
The factory H-pipe is a joke!!! It's a piece of pipe welded between the rear pipes which they cut holes in both pipes the size of a quarter. If you want to get a better sound and not spend alot of cash buy Andy's mod or get a Z06 Ti muffler setup.
Why not look in the "C5 parts for sale section"? I got my B&B PRT's in there for $250 or $275(can't remember) shipped! They just needed to be polished.
I think the X works way better than factory H-pipe. In addition to smooth and power, it significiantly changed the tone on mine. Not sure why. Anyway, after listening for a while, I ended up not only getting used to the new sound but liking it better.
If you have headers and get a X-pipe, only makes sense to spring a few hundred more for high-flow cat converters. Random Tech may be great but very pricey. On the other hand, I apparently went too cheap with some off brand and toasted both in six months. Sounded like a fist full of nuts and bolts banging around inside them.
Recently put on MagnaFlo cats to go with the MagnaFlo X, long-tube headers and BB exhaust. So far, so good. I'll probably know more in another 6-12 months.
