Hello forum members. I was hoping to get some advice on an upcoming road trip.
I am contemplating a trip from Seattle to Denver this weekend via interstates 90 to 82 to 84 to 80 to 25.
Has anyone ever driven this route in winter? Im concerned that I may see some impossible conditions for the Vette in Eastern Washington and Idaho, not to mention the Rockies of Northern Utah and Wyoming.
My final destination is Tempe, AZ but I was hoping to swing through Denver on my way. However, if the roads are going to be bad, I may just take the more direct route down the CA coast to I-10.
Thanks in advance...
Yes, I am starting to agree. Ive been looking at local road conditions and there are definitely some ugly patches on this drive.
Still, Ive done the passes on I-70 and I-80 in the winter, if you get good weather they are usually OK.
Consensus is SOUTH!!! I certainly wouldn't be going through those passes in January or February. A friend of mine did it in a fully loaded MB and said he wouldn't do it again. The trucks and the gravel on the road is not a good thing. Sunny Ca here you come.
I can only give you my opinion about the 84 & 80 through Utah. And the truth be known the road crews do a great job around here keeping the roads passable. However if the weather was to turn bad while you were enroute, the nearest Holiday Inn is where I'd hang out until the storm passed and the road crews had 4 or 5 hours to clear the mountain passes. Then you could resume travel without a problem. I'd estimate that we have no more than 20 days each winter season when the snow would give you driving trouble. So far this season we have had about 5 days that had snow sticking to the roads.
