I've been thinking about installing West Coast Corvettes cold air screens but someone indicated that I could get the same effect but simply drilling out the stock screens. Has anyone done this and if so where did you drill? Did is seem to help?
There is a thread someplace regarding this. What I did was cut about a 4-inch wide, 3/4-inch tall slit along the top crease of the foglight cover. Cutting along the top crease may cut down on any water ingestion type possibility. I also cut off about a two foot long strip of weather stipping along the top of the negine compartment near the wipers. Supposedly removing the weather stripping will allow the hot air to better escape.

The water was the one issue that has kept me from going ahead. As hard as it has been raining here the past few weeks I would image that at the minimum a lot of water vapor might make it's way to the air cleaner. Probably not a good thing I don't know what the exact path from the screen to the air box area looks like but the air cleaner is going to act like a vaccume.
I was also wondering about the amount of extra dirt etc. that would most likely make it to the air cleaner
I think your idea might be better than an aftermarket screen.
I just installed the Z06 style screens that I got for Christmas. I love the look that they add.
I drilled 3-1" holes, and several smaller holes in the plastic shroud before installing the screens. The "slit" along the top will work as well.
You do not have to worry about water unless you completely submerge the front of the car .
As far as dirt making it to the filter, that is why I bought an aftermarket filter that can be cleaned
I did not cut the "weather stripping" on the driver's/rear (near windshield) side of the hood, but rather lifted up about 6" and tucked it under the hood latch. That way I can replace it if it appears that water is getting under the hood. I'm not really sure that this it actually does anything, anyway. I would not touch the passenger side, however, as the PCM resides below that area (under the battery), and this would be a bad idea in case doing this does cause water to get in.

Most that I have seen have just drilled a series of holes in the plastic that fills the fog light opening. I would say maybe a 1" drill bit would work fine - you can even make a pattern out of the holes.

Was this from the front of the car as facing the fog lights? There seems to be a grid pattern on the plastic covering the fog light area.
I used a 1" bit and drilled about 10 holes on each side. I'm not sure what effect it's had but it was cheaper and easier than adding new cold air screens. And I covered this with the Z06 metal screens.

Did you drill these holes with the shroud still in place? I was curious if I might damage something behind the shroud if I tried to drill/cut it in place.
Used a dremel to cut 1 1/2 inch by 5 inch slot in each side and installed the Z06 screens, also installed Z06 air filter cover. Any air build up will blow out your side fender vents.
I cut the tops off of mine. Cant even tell its done unless you stick your hand in there. And If I found someone sticking their hands in my grill I would very promply kick them.

I put the drill into the foglight area and carefully with the drill running (i.e. with as little pressure as I could use) pushed the drill bit through the plastic. You don't want to go too fast due to the items behind the foglights surrounds.
