No offense guys, but you'd have to be pretty dumb to complain about their shipping costs.

Here's some quotes right off their website:

Why does shipping and handling fee seem so high?

Gmpartsdirect.com sells parts near published dealer cost plus a percentage for a shipping and handling fee. This fee is not actual shipping charges only.

The shipping and handling pays for the shipping charges plus our other expenses like web programming, employees, etc. Another way to explain this is, we are selling you the part near published dealer cost, the shipping, and handling pays all of our expenses associated with running the web site. The amount left over after our expense is our profit.

Keep in mind our overall price is a tremendous savings over retail price and in most cases is even cheaper than dealer wholesale shipped to your door step, and without leaving the convenience of the Mouse. Compare the overall price delivered to your door.
Why are your parts so inexpensive? Is this for real?

Yes our prices are for real! We sell only original current production OE GM Parts. Parts and prices listed on our site are based off GM pricing. We can sell this low only because of our volume of parts sales. You can see exactly where we make our profit in our handling fee less the actual shipping cost, employee, web, and "brick and mortar associated cost", etc. That is why we have to strictly adhere to our site polices, one of which is no phone calls please. We can help you in every way by email. We are on a very low profit margin and to keep the overall prices low the Internet department does not have a phone staff. In almost all cases your to the door price is less than wholesale, without using a wholesale license or going to your local GM dealer. On large items, if there is an additional shipping and handling fee, you will be notified and asked for approval after placing your order. Feel free to email customer service if you have any questions or contact your local GM dealer with the part numbers listed to compare our prices.
So basically, they are selling stuff at rock bottom prices, and they make THEIR money by inflating the shipping/handling. Their out-the-door price is 99.5% cheaper (usually SIGNIFICANTLY) cheaper than ANYONE (local or online).

Like I said, I have ordered HUNDREDS of things from them over the past...4 years? Never had a screw up, never had a shipping problem, always the cheapest.

And again, I am always a big advocate of them, but right now you cannot beat Fred Beans - they are selling stuff for the same price BUT without the massively inflated shipping. You can't beat that. I checked the prices on a few things and they were nearly 10% cheaper across the board than GMPD. When you consider GMPD's profit margin, I can't even imagine how Fred Beans is making any money at all!

I've bought 10 or 12 items from them; they respond to your e-mail; they give you the part number; they answer your questions. This shipping and handling thing has been BEAT TO DEATH. You buy from them, or from Bean or from anyone else based on THE TOTAL DELIVERED PRICE. That's it ! And on a total delvered price they are VERY hard to beat.

I just ordered the GM ceramic pads for all 4 wheels from GMPD, $119. for all 4 including shipping, Fitchner was $118 plus shipping and Bean hadn't extended their "at cost" sale at the time I ordered.

Used em once, they shipped my stuff to Florida instead of Ohio, took a bit to sort out because I could find no phone contact for them, just e-mail which was e-mail 1 day, receive response 2 days later, e-mail again because they misunderstood, response 2 days later...No big deal, mistakes happen, just a little slow since I could find no way to actually talk to a human. Noticed on the web page that they really aren't GM affiliated other than being a GM dealer (Flow Chevrolet).

I want to thank all forum members for their replies and useful information. I made the best deal with Gene at Fred Beans. It sure was nice to talk directly to him and he gave me the best price over all of the others by almost 300.00 on the torque tube assembly.
Again, thanks for all comments, you just saved me a bundle!

Sometimes saving money isn't everything. There's such a thing as customer service. I ordered a Harness K from them and upon realizing I didn't need it, I wanted to send it back, still in the box. Their email response was arrogant and they wanted to charge me a stupid restocking fee. I decided to sell the Harness K to a fellow forum member at a price less than it would cost me to send it back to these people rather than ever do business with them again. I'll order a lot of GM parts over the rest of the years I have left on this earth, but they will never see a penny of it. You only get one chance to do the right thing with me and after that, I'm through with you...

I agree with you fully. Money is not everything, but i always explore all possibilities before I make a final decision. The advice I receive on this forum is absolutely great, as I think that most of the members shoot square with you and I've made alot of friends through this forum.
Thanks for sharing your experiences. I have purchased the part through Fred Beans and got a great deal from Gene.

Just to be clear.... The 'Them' in this post is GMPartsDirect. I'm getting annoyed all over again just thinking about them.

Much of this depends on if you'd rather pay 60 dollars for a 50 dollar part with 10 dollars shipping and handling (70 dollars for anyone with a hangover) than 100 dollars for the same part with "free" shipping. Apparently, some people prefer free shipping over lower total cost. That is their prerogative.

Likewise, if you don't need someone to be at the end of a 'phone guiding you through your purchase, assisting with the install, handling returns etc., then gmpartsdirect could be for you. If you need the "full service" experience, then one should probably look elsewhere and pay for those "value added" services.
