No, we haven't forgotten. You're making a false assumption. This is more a case of "been there, done that" and I absolutely remember.

I remember racing some guy when I was 16 and crested the top of a hill going over 100 only to find a pick-up baseball game going on in the middle of the street. I remember flying home from my girlfriend's house at 2:00 a.m. and coming over a hill to see a railroad track that I thought was abandoned filled with a huge freight train and swapping ends on my car trying to stop before I ran into it. I remember my best friend running into a bridge embutment because an early morning garbage truck pulled out in front of him on a "deserted" street at 3:00 a.m.

We remember all too well. The problem here is not our memory, but your youth and belief that "nothing can happen". The cemetaries are filled with young people who thought nothing could happen along with their innocent victims.

My A4 has eaten so much d@mn rice she's starting to look like a Sumo wrestler! But I've always loved her low-n-wide rear.

She has a Maggy in her future, so I guess I'll have rice and expand her diet to see what else I she can eat ... safely, of course.

If you read car related articles, you'll know that Vettes can consume 90% of the vehicles on the road at any given time ...

If you look around while you're out driving, you'll see that it's true ... and you don't have to prove anything to anyone but yourself. Just drive a look

Wanting to beat a rice burner? Its a no win situation. If you win what have you accomplished? And if you break something or worse have them break something for you , what have you won? Just a thought.

Well put. As anybody over 30 knows, experience is the best teacher of all. Learn from the mistakes of others and save yourself a boatload of grief.

Ok everyone thanks for the great response! I didn't know I was going to get so much fire going.... Really 9/10 I probably drive my vette like a grandma as my dd.... But I'll be damned if it doesn't happen once a week where yes some kid in his whatever pulls up next to me at that stop light.....and I know I should be happy that I now have the best sports car in the world etc....And, I really don't want to kill little children or puppies but I do want to make that friggen guy next to me go WTF..... SO that is why I want to mod some. And really I want to keep it my DD, but hey have some fun to You have some great suggestions! Keep them coming

Thanks

If you want to start out modding moderately, start with intake and exhaust and dyno-tuning by a competent turner.

I don't know what rear-end your car has but certainly going up from a 2.73 would be a help. But that isn't too cheap as your car has to be retuned and shift points changed if you do that.

I think what we're all trying to say is the best mod you can ever have is between your ears and how you use what you have on your car.

Ok, in between all the rhetoric, I didn't see anything being mentioned in regards to the tranny itself.

Will the installation of a shift kit, do anything to increase the acceleration? How any other adjustments to the tranny, such as pressure adjustments, raising shift points, etc etc.

I don't race on the streets either, but I do like to "take off fast every now and then", if for no other reason than to blow some of the carbon out of the motor. There is not a hint of a "chirp" from my rear tires with the stock motor, runflats and a "predator tune up".

My 1320 stats went from 13.25's to 12.79 @ 114 mph, thats with stock 2.73 gears and street tires not Drag Radials. This winter, installed 3.42 gears and Yank 3500 Conveter and Drag Radials, 11's should be within easy reach now, can't wait for the (rice)season to open here in Texas. This is my everyday driver and I figure a mid 11's car ought to surprise alot of kids w/ricers. My car looks completely stock on the outside. It's kinda like having a sawed off shotgun inside of your Tuxcedo jacket. Damn I love this stuff. When the mod bug bites gears and let it breath, ie.... headers and intake and free flowing cat back's biggest bang for the buck and this is only the begining. Then it gets real serious
Just keep the racin stuff on the track, its more fun and there are people to verify the killls.
This is what I love about my brothers from Texas.
I've got an A4 and love it. Eventually I will get gears/TC and possibly a SC. Long tube headers are out here in Cali unless you know how to beat the system. I don't so I am over the thought of a SC.

At the risk of starting the MN6 and A4 wars again . . .

You can do what you like to anything with an auto box and it is still going to loose - except on a standing start and short run. Speaking as an over the ponder I can't really understand your colonial obsession with quarter mile runs. Ahem. The first quarter mile just determines who gets to the beginning of the course first.

The A4 in the 'vette is practically prehistoric. It was because of a 'rice' experience with my A4 that I bought my MN6.

Only the car wasn't 'rice', it looked just like any other Octavia hatchback. It was only when I tracked the guy down that I found out he was a road rally enthusiast - he was making over 290bhp with a stage 4 kit and much shorter gearing than I had. And he was a good driver. But the reason he creamed me on the road was because he had a manual gearbox. We were rolling at about 40 mph when acceleration became an issue. When we started to fly he chucked it into 2nd but I had to wait for the box of antiques in the A4 to register that YES I had manually shifted it into 2nd and YES I bloody well would like it go sometime NOW. Of course, by the time that the obscure alchemy of the agricultural gearbox had decided to actually change some of my power to weight ratio advantage (small though it was in this case) into forward motion he was long gone.

Not to mention that actually balancing a car properly with an auto box is nigh on impossible, and you can see I had no choice. MN6 it is. And I love it. A proper sports car, not only the world's best GT car (all 'vettes), but also a complete effing nuttermobile. Fantastic.

Best mod for an A4 if you wanna play seriously is a 'for sale' sign. Then get an MN6.

But a 'vette is a 'vette, they're all brilliant in their own way.

Be careful out there. Especially watch out for the feds.

Love you all.

The most fun is intimidating the ricers and you don't have to go fast to do that! I have an A4 with 3.15 gears and love it!! Just use good judgment.

It all depends on how much $$$ you want to spend.

We use to get bugged by local ricers; it was really annoying. Then one day we popped the hood, so the president of the local 'import' club could see. After looking at the engine, he said that he would tell club members not to bother challenging us any more. Funny thing, it actually worked; we are hardly bothered by them now. Anyway, this is what we showed him...
