Default Hidden Radar Detectors

Is there a radar detector out there that can be install so that it is hidden.

I drive threw a state that it is illegal, and it is a pain in the butt to take it down/put it up/take it down ect...

Peace
Willfulone

That depends.

Do you want to hide it or want to use it?

The only way it can be effective is to be mounted as high as possible. You can then hide the display, but the main unit has to be high.

Passport makes a unit called an SR-1 and SR-7 which are hidden units. I have them on all my vehicles. The display units fits perfectly in the ashtray area and can be hidden from view when you close the lid. Front detection unit fits nicely beside one of your driving lights and the rear receiving unit can go on you licence plate or better yet in the rear facia slots. The SR-7 comes with a jammer also. Alittle pricey but well worth. I have never had a problem and I drive through Canada all the time with them.

Default Hidden Radar Dectector

I agree with Kschwamy I have a Passport SR-1 in my 02 convt and it works fine.Front reciever is mounted in the front grill next to the fog lamps, the rear is above the licence plate compleatly out of site.I removed the ash tray inside the car notched out the plastic and mounted the controles behind the door. You can turn off thr unit when you want to or leave it on all the time.Sometime when you're driving and there is a lot of wind noise it's hard to hear the beeps so I leave the door open and it works just fine.It took me all of 12 hours to install it but it's worth it.

There is also the K40 system, which is hardwired into your car and alerts you of radar through your car's audio system and two blinking lights in the dash. This system also claims to have photo jamming capabilities (not sure how reliable it is) and I think is sold at Tweeters for close to $1000. Obviously this is not your normal system, but it is hidden. www.k40.com

I installed the Passport SRX when I first got my Vette. It can take some time to do the install, but is well worth it in my opinion. I placed the control unit in the ashtray area, so that the door can be closed when it's not being used.

I have a Passport Solo I cordless. I mount it near the driver side A-piller just under the windshield tint. It is almost non visable when standing infront of the car.

I also drive though that particular place

Er, ah, don't they have radar detector detectors? Hiding won't help.

Where were you a month ago when I was selling my SR-1 and including the fog light surround mount I had custom made for it??? I had great luck with this unit. I only removed it because I installed a VaraRam and I just didn't have a better place to mount the front detector unit than the fog surround. Check places like eBay - that's where I sold mine finally. They don't come up often, but you will see them. There are others on the market from Uniden and such, but I have not seen any test results on their performance like I did with the Escort products. Good luck with your search

in my 1980 Corvette (during the early 1980's) I hid a Fox detector and wired it into the cruise-control brake-pedal switch. When it went off, it would dis-engage the cruise control.

It helped quicken the slow-down process

Bel makes one I think it is the K75 or something like that. Cost around $600-$700. Escort makes them up to around $1300. They also have laser jammers now. Now that is some cool****!

I picked me up an 81 in a 55 tickey on the DC beltway between 123 and 7 early in December. I was using a V1 and decided to just throw my hat over it on the dash instead of pulling it out and stowing it. The V1 is basically undetectable so with the remote display you can cover up the detector. The trouble with that is, even though the RF gets through, the IR (laser) does not. Apparently the biker-cop was using laser, because Mr V1 never burped when biker-cop nailed me.

In speaking with a State Trooper of the particular state, (also a corvette driver and freind ) he said it is only 'line of site' and only the Ka band.

i.e. when your detector starts beeping ( before it is a solid beep or buzz ) turn it off, then they can not detect the detector, slow down to speed limit too. Once the detector is constant beep or buzz, you have been painted and they have you.

The other thing he mentioned was that the detectors that detect the Ka band aint cheap so not all cruzers have them. Or atleast that is too my understanidng.

Believe it or not they actually have "radar detector detectors" that hone in on the signal not the unit itself.

I think the radar detector detector is called VG-1 and Vg-2. Both Escort and Valentine claim to be invisible to each type of detection. The state of lovers uses Vg-2 and I can confirm the newest Valentine is invisible.

All of the expensive "professional" units claim to be invisible to radar detector detectors don't they? I am reasonably certain the Bel RX65 and Escort 8500 (both owned by same company by the way and share the same technology, except Bel gets new tech first) both claim invisibility.

It's been awhile since I bought either but I have to think that they run between 500 and 750 uninstalled.
