We'll this isn't OT and he did say "punch it" and not "hit it". So I won't go there, oh how was it the first time I punched it? (I was getting some flash backs there for a sec) Awesome.
You know what they say "once you do it you never forget how".

I have to go back a lot of years. It was the first time at the track with with a '56 Vette set up for drag racing with a 370 c.i. Pontiac engine and a 671 GMC Supercharger with dual 4 barrells. Talk about scary fast, I thought my 270 HP Vette was fast, but this was something else until it melted two pistons and broke the rods.

I was disappointed. My C5 was an A4 with 2:73's. The addition of 3:42's, a Blackwing, and a Z06 exhaust system made the car respectable.

Well, I've got a C5 but the first fast car I ever hit the gas on was a 3000GT VR4 twin turbo, running around 18-20psi of boost from 15G turbos. They're AWD, so you can imagine the throw your head into the seat feeling you can get...

When I was test driving the Vette I have now ( pewter 99 coupe ) the owner rode with me. He kept saying "you can get on it if you want - go ahead - get on it!"

When I hit 130 (closed course-professional driver-don't try this at home) I noticed he was squirming around in the passenger seat and grabbing the dash! What a rush! He told me I was the first person test driving the car who got it over 60 MPH.

This is my 5th Vette but my first C5. I gotta say I think these are awesome cars!

Hell, I remember the first I ever rode in a Corvette. Back in 1958 when my uncle took me for a ride in his new '58 fuel injected 4-speed. I was 8. Needless to say, 14 Corvettes later, I've been hooked ever since.

Default The WHOLE story...

First experience for me in a Vette, my neighbor's Polo Green '95. He'd drop a tidbit of Vette knowledge on me every time I saw him, so it was obvious he was recruiting fanatics. I was looking into buying a used Infinity G35 Coupe for about $35k. He asked me if I'd ever thought about owning a Vette. I said no, I'd always figured they were out of my reach. He asked me if I'd ever driven one, then if I'd like to try his, with this grin on his face.
Mind you, this is his DD and he keeps a mirror-like shine on it all year round. I found myself running to my house to tell the wife, "I'll be right back, Roc's letting me drive his car!!!" Her eyes popped out of her head, then she said, "Tell him I'm next!"
I eased very carefully onto the main thoroughfare, getting used to the pedals and being very mindful of the power beneath my right foot.
He kept encouraging me to punch it around this car and that car, but the speed limit was 45 and I didn't want to lose control, so I told him, "Lemme get to I-66 first. By that time I'll be used to the pedals and the steering."
I-66 East came and halfway up the short ramp, I was already at 65, and the exhaust was humming a throaty note. A few hundred feet later, Roc says, "Now I want you to punch it and get around this car. I want you to feel the power in this thing." I pressed the gas and she dropped one gear and we were up to 75. He says, "That was good, but I want you to STOMP on it... really feel her squat!" Well, I coasted to about 55, then did the expected...
The engine roared like a lion and the exhaust was singing like an orchestra, the back end bumped out to the right just a slight bit, and we were at 95. I remember trying to shout, but just a squeal came out of my smiling face. We had the roof off and it was a clear, warm spring night. The only complaint I had about his, which I told him, was the lack of room in the foot wells, and the fact that with the top on, I'd hit my head on it. Plus, the assumption that I couldn't afford this awesome machine. Well, he gave me a new-found hope with the words, "This is the C4. The transmission's mounted up front. You can get a C5, where the transmission's mounted in the back, which opens up the leg room. The seats are lower, which gives you a lot more head room, and you can find a 98 or 99 for about $27k."
This grin's been on my face ever since! Got my Black 2001 Coupe for my 30th birthday on May 2, 2004, for $26,999. Thanks, Roc!

November '2000. Had not had a sports car in 6 years. Decided it was about time again. Had never owned nor been interested in vettes. But had read about the C5’s, so went to the chevy dealer to test drive a C5. Took out a new 6 speed coupe, eased her out on I95, stomped on it in first, stomped on it in second, …. And by the time I was doing 100 – I just knew I had to have one! Yes – was very impressed and had never driven anything so fast (and I thought my ’68 road runner had been fast, well forget that!).

Bought my first (and current) vettte a few weeks later. Still love driving it every day 57,000 miles later. Will keep it until it dies, and plan on adding a C6 vert. to the stable in a couple of years.

Will never forget that first incredible test drive. Truly love at first sight!

I've had mine just over a month but due to the weather I've only driven it about 7 times. The feeling is just awesome. This is the first real sportscar I have ever had. I have a 6 speed and the first time I really let it go thru the gears, it was like, WHAT A RUSH!. The Corvette is truly a remarkable car, performance, handling, styling and that you are one with the car feeling.

The first time i floored my car the previous owner was with me, we were leaving the bank and i was taking her home. The car started pinging really really badly, and i could see the ploom of smoke behind me. I asked her when the last time she floored the car was and she replied a few monthes after she had bought it <almost 2 years b4>

These are some really great stories! I bought my first Corvette this past summer after my wife told my that I ought to go after my dream car! She's great...and definitely a keeper...my wife I mean!

I had my first ride in a Z06 when my very generous neighbor gave me the opportunity to drive his to Sears Point for a Ferrari event. I was hooked from that moment on. I started looking for a good used Z06, knowing I couldn't afford a new one, when low and behold I came across a deal in NC at a Hendricks dealership. I made the arrangements over the phone and then flew out to NC to pick up my car.

I still remember the first time I saw my beauty...a brand new Black 2004 Z06, and for 12k off of sticker! I headed back home in my new car and was a good boy during the break in period. I stopped in Bowling Green and took the plant and museum tours which really made me all the more glad that I had purchased this car. My first chance to "punch it" came somewhere in the Great Smokies, coming out of a rest area. I looked down at the odometer and realized it was time to let er rip!

I nailed it getting on to the freeway and I have never been slammed into a seat so hard in my entire life. My response...I started laughing...I mean red faced, tears running down my cheeks kind of laughing. I almost had to pull over in order to regain control over my happy emotions. I just could not believe that my dream had come true...a Vette that was really mine and a Z06 at that!

Well, that was my first mod...the infamous "permagrin" and it is still installed and functioning well...every time I drive my new Z06!

Yeah, I remember well. I was test driving a M6 C5 and called my buddy and told him "Geez, I'm having orgasmic delights with no woman in sight and both hands on the wheel!" He asked me what the h*ll I was talking about and I told him that I was test driving the C5 and had just put it to the floor for a couple of seconds from about 10 MPH (just a short burst, never got it over 45) and couldn't believe the feeling of the power. About a month later I had my new '03 EB coupe!

Two yrs. later and still lovin' it.

Jeff

PS: My first and only other ride in a 'Vette was back in '68 when another friend of mine had just bought a new one.
