I was thinking about this too since I bought the C5. I looked into DVD-based NAV systems but at that time, they were less than impressive. I went with the Garmin Street Pilot III.
Now you got systems from Pioneer (AVIC), Alpine and Kenwood. They can all play DVD movies too, which is good when youre waiting for a date, or not driving.

I have an Alpine. Nav unit was about 2K, headunit was seperate, but I don't know how much time it's saved me. Nice to have the piece of mind. This is just the GPS info screen ... the actaul maps are incredible.

The Alpine IVA-D300 is touchscreen, however the non-TS (IVA-D900 above) has a 1.5 million pixel resolution screen vs. 300K pixel res in the D300. I'd rather have the better pic.
I agree that the AVIC N1 is the hot setup, but I couldn't justify $2,000-plus for a system that'd be stuck in one vehicle. Same reason I didn't spring for the $1,700 NAV system in the Magnum RT last summer.
My solution is the Garmin StreetPilot 2610 (touch-screen, voice-prompts), which cost me less than $800 from amazon.com. I'm kicking around some ideas for mounting it, and I've settled on a RAM flex-pipe that mounts to the left-front passenger-seat mounting bolt, with a power-audio cable that'll run out of the console, a remote speaker, and windshield-mount antenna that gets tucked into the glovebox until it's needed. The black-clad flex-pipe can be tucked neatly under the passenger seat when not in use.
So...with a power-audio cable, a remote speaker, a coupla flex-pipes, and a handlebar mount I can equip all five vehicles for less than $1,000.
As for built in the AVI-CD1 by pioneer looks nice. That is the one I am looking at. I don't need a GPS or touch screen stereo but I LOVE gadgets and like the "cool" factor. Every time I talk to the wife I get the and when I reach for the check book I get

Easily moved from one vehicle to the other...no wiring (other than 12V DC power) required...everything is already built into the unit. A brand-new one can be bought on eBay for less than $700.
