my advice would be "don't do a pit". you are cutting an exiating floor and there is probably 6-8 inches of sand underal the floor which will give you enormous problems. if you do continue, be sure you use a cofferdam to keep the hole from caving on you. you do not want to be chest deep in dirt. buy a 4 poster but if you do not have the head room get a kwik lift and be thankful you saved the work. good luck
