Default Borla Stinger

I'm poised to spring for the Borla Stinger system for my 99 C5 6 speed. Any advice on where I might find the best price? Is this system obnoxiously loud? Can you still listen to music at times (I have a convertable)? Thanks! gh

If your exhaust is basically stock, it won't be overly loud at all. I got mine
before I added the headers and cam and absolutely loved it, even after
the headers/cam I absolutely love it! I agree with other previously stated
opinions on the forum, its the way the car should sound from the factory.

To me, this as close to a 60s sound as you'd be likely to find anywhere. I wouldn't trade mine for anything!

As far as finding the best price, I recommend that you first check with Forum vendors and then do a Google search. I lucked-out when a CF member found an incredible Group Purchase by an outside vendor, but this type of thing happens periodically, so keep your eyes and ears open. You're bound to find a good deal.

LOVE my 2-tip Stingers!! Not too loud at all (wish they were louder...) Andy at A&A had the best price on them (including shipping) of any of the forum vendors when I bought mine a few monhts ago. Also got from him the rail guards and frame savers together for BY FAR the best price.

There is some resonance at high RPM but at low RPM they are pretty quite. With the top down they are perfect. I would highly recommend them.

Here's a great price. I bought from east coast corvettes before and everything went smooth

PFYC.com has them for $589 for the dual tips (which I prefer). I don't think they are too loud at all. In fact, I was sitting in traffic just this morning and thinking how quiet they are at idle, and I have headers!

Here's a clip of mine (with headers).....4MB video - right click and save.....

I must qualify the data below by saying that I have headerws, heads/cam, VaraRam and a couple other mods that make my car louder than your average bear. These readings were taken the day I swapped out my Stingers for a set 0f Z06 Ti's. Remember that the decibel scale is logarithmic.

YMMV

Stinger-Z06 Decibel readings

Outside readings taken at the center/rear, 10 ft. from the back of the car
Interior readings measured from the passenger seat

Stingers
Cold start - 110 dB
After 1 min. – 100 dB
Oil temp @ 100 deg. F – 96 dB
Interior idle - 90 dB
Interior rev - 98 dB
4K rev – 96 dB
Brief hits of 100dB in interior while driving

Z06 Ti
Cold start - 96 dB
Warm idle - 87 dB
Interior idle - 84 dB
Interior rev – 92 dB

The Borla system is sold by a number of forum vendors - you may want to check with them and see who gives you the best price. I heard the Stingers on a Z06 and they sounded sweet.

I got a awesome deal on my stingers from Corvette Garage. I put a magnaflow X-pipe on at the same time with the stingers. While its a little bit louder, there is popping sound on deceleration. Doesn't have a obnioxous sound, and you def can hear the sterio.
