Default Stupid Question...

I'm a newer vette owner, and I see alot of references about the different types of vettes, i.e. MN6, A4. What are these differences and how do I know if I have one ?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome and congrats!

Many of those are the option codes - for example MN6 is the 6 speed tranny in the C5s, while MN12 is the 6 speed tranny in the z06s - A4 commonly means the auto tranny.

You should have a list of the options your car was built with, it will be on the glove box door or on the underside of the drivers side storage cubby cover in older C5s.

You may also see FRC, which can be Fixed Roof Coupe, Fuel Rail cover, Flying Roof Club, or others.

If there are 3 pedals you have an MN6. Welcome to the forum and congratulations on the new ride.

Just remember -- there are no stupid questions -- basic ones maybe, but ask them anyway. e.g.: When I tried to install my CAGS eliminator, I didn't know the tranny was in the rear (instructions just said locate tranny). Can't get much more basic than that. But for this forum, I'd still have that annoying CAGS crap!!

Welcome!

Congrats on joining the forum and for getting a C5. The A4 is an automatic transmission and the MN6 is the 6-speed. Many other acronyms here - it will take a while to get familiar with them.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your car.

The ONLY stupid question I can think of on the Corvette Forum would be "should I get a vette"

No need to be afraid, nobody will make fun of you. Well, here in C5 General, anyway. Wander into CFOT, and that's another story altogether!!

there is a lot of very useful information in that sticky thread at the top of the main C5Gen page - but here's a link to make it easier.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=103

There are guys that hang around here whose knowledge borders on encyclopedic... and then there's guys like me.....

Well, that's not COMPLETELY true. If you visit the thread, "Could this be the end of StuzVette? :-O", you'll see that occasionally, people might just make fun of you.

But it's all in fun!

Congrats and welcome to the Corvette Mecca! My time here has only been interrupted by work and sleep. It's pretty addictive here, so have fun and absorb as much as you can.
Keep that Black 02 looking as pearly as possible, you never know when you'll be gawked at!
Save the wave and take care!
