Is it absolutely neccessary to tune after headers? Or within the span of about three months could I install headers, exhaust and then get H/C done and then get a tune instead? Would my hp be lower than when I started, or is it a case of simply not getting everything I can out of it until the tune is done?

P.S. Another rookie question, but how much "tuning" can be accomplished at home- i.e. without the dyno?
Okay, that makes sense. I guess I'd go with shorties too if I lived in California so I wouldn't have to worry with the smog *****.
I picked up a set of B&B's for my 2000 so cheap - $250 - I couldn't pass them up. And they make a difference. I agree that you cn get quite a bit more from LT's, but I didn't think it would be worth an extra grand. Performance increase was noticeable SOP and about 7-8HP on the dyno as near as we can tell. They do change the exhaust note quite a bit - maybe they flow enough extra to change the muffler sound and maybe it is the increase from under the hood - the SS doesn'y muffle as well as the cast iron factory headers. They were easy to install and I think worth the investment as I can always go to LT's later on and recover my investment from these.
KOOKS headers here too. Great fit and finish. I wonder if the headers referred to in that thread were actually KOOKS. I have never seen anywhere (and yes I feel comfortable using the word "never" in this instance) or anyone ever complain about the fit and finish of KOOKS.
I sure would like to see pictures of that set of headers.
Have the car tuned after a header install to get the maximum benefit from the headers, and I wouldn't waste time with shorty headers at all.
