Ohhhh, if that's the question, then it's easy. I thought the question was about long-tube brands.

Shorties just don't give you much. I don't know that I've heard anybody be all that passionate about them.

Ya I dont thnink the shorties are any better than say LS6 exhaust manifolds. LT's are where the power is.

Default Then a price issue?

So is it a money issue that people buy the shorties? Or are these folks simply looking for a better(louder?) sound? (Yep, I'm a noob and the mod bug is biting real hard)

Long tubes give the added HP, shorties look cool but really dont add any thing over the stock manifolds.

Long Tubes give much more power with freer flowing design.
Shorties eventually do restrict the flow.

To be a little more specific now, the best Long Tubes you can get in my opinion are LG's. Great fit, great design and tested and true.

Nobody can argue with the quality of finish of the Kooks headers. I wanted to hang them on the wall, not hide them under the hood.

+ they work (I had one of the first sets which I believe were the only true equal length headers but a PITA to fit...I think they have been modified now for easier fit)

No long tubes have CARB approval, but there is at least one shorty that does.

I have been doing as much research as I can and I am torn between the Kooks, LG,s or the Dynatechs

I have no idea why anyone would buy the shorties. Sound comes from your mufflers.

Shorties are a waste of time... LT's make more power, more torque, and give the car a meaner sound.

Lefteye gives a good answer. There are NO LT's that are CARB approved (smog legal in Cali) but there are at least two shorties (B&B and JBA's) that are. Probably the main reason guys go for shorties....at least here in Cali.

As for me.....I say F*ck the smog *****....I went with LTs.....

Default Subjective

This is an absolutely subjective question, but which company/model has the best(not neccessarily easiest) fit? I know there's got to be a couple of guys out there that have swapped headers a few times-are there specific advantages or disadvantages to certain companies. BTW, I'm sold on LT now. Bring on the search for the right model for me.

LT's for the added low end power. Kooks, 'cause I've gotten good results with them before. Fit and finish is great, install is still a PITA.

LTs are the way to go if it's power you are after; especially if you have or are planning to go with a H/C mod. FWIW, I had the FLPS and then switched to the Kooks (both with the high flow CATS) and got more power and better sound with the Kooks. This is the only comparison I make from my own experience; no offense to the other LT mfgrs.

I've been thinking about buying some LT headers for my vette. I was
wondering, do you need a programming tune to benefit from them or
are they self-sustaining, in terms of hp.

Okay, that makes sense. I guess I'd go with shorties too if I lived in California so I wouldn't have to worry with the smog *****.

I'm certainly not an expert in that area but everything I've heard says that a good dyno-tune/programming is absolutely essential after installing headers.
