Hey guys I'm new to this corvette thing, I'm a long time mustang fan and ford guy and after owning and driving countless mustangs I'm looking at buying a vette. Only problem is that I'm 6'9" , probably one of the tallest people on here, i have been looking around and seen that some 6'4 people were complaining. I've sat in a few and love the car and it's driveable as is, but i make frequent 100 mile trips and it will be my daily driver, I was wondering if anyone knew of any way to modify the car, the seat, or the seat tracks, I was thinking of just mounting the seat on the floor and eliminating the tracks, leg room isn't much of an issue but head room is. If anyone has any ideas or has had a similar problem or has seen any sites having to do with this, let me know any help would be appreciated.
I just read in an article in Speed Style and Sound magazine that Todd Lamb bored out some holes in his seat to help him sit lower in it for racing pruposes but I don't see why this wont work for what your needs are. Send an email to Ken King and Sandy King at Vetteessentials to see what they did to mod it. I think Speed Style and Sound is a supporting vendor, you could also give them a call. good luck!
6' 5" here and, as the others have said, the seat will adjust to about anyone. However, you have to be happy with laying back some to get the headroom. Kinda like an F1 driver...
I put the seat all the way down and FORWARD a couple inches to allow the seat back to recline a bit more than if the seat was all the way back.
If I remember correctly from previous threads on this topic, assuming the Vert top is up you have less headroom in that then you do in a coupe with the glass top on it - that gives you the most headroom. .
An old trick is to cut every other wire on the underside of the seat. Causes you to sink in more - giving you room.
I also cut off the bumpstop that prevents the seat from going all the way down. The seat's motor drags on the carpet this way but it does give you a little more room. I'm 6'4" and I'm fairly comfortable in my hardtop, though I can't wear a helmet in the car.
There was a post a while back (with pics) about removing the bump-stops on the power seat screw mechanism that may give you a bit more head room.
At 6'4" and lager in the torso then the legs I just fit comfortably. If I lean my head back I rub the C-pillar.
Thanks for the advice guys, noone has any better ideas than cutting the wires or the bumpstops? My plan when I was planning on getting a mustang was just getting racing seats because they are thinner, but the stock vette seats are pretty thin as it is. I rub my head on the roof in the hatchs with glass top as it is, I don't hit the glass but my head rests on the plastic piece where it latches into....
