Default Extended warranty question

I just bought an 01 coupe w/ 25k miles on it. (Thus, out of warrantee period). I decided to go ahead and buy an extended warranty. It is a 4 yr/32k bumper to bumper GM warranty, w $50 deductible. It cost me a little over 2k. Did I make a mistake or was it worth it for peace of mind?

If you ever see what some people have to pay for repairs in any posts you will be glad you got it. Fitchner chevy sells the gmpp warranties cheaper than anyone I have seen. You may have paid a tad too much but if you use it just a few times, it will be well worth it.

I bought a GMCC extended warranty from Ken Finchner for my '99 coupe. I may have paid around 1500.00 for it- no deductible. I just got my Vette out of the shop for leaky tranny repair, faulty oil pressure sensor, faulty wheel speed sensor, and a fob romote replacement. All of this cost around 3000.00. I'd say that at least in my case, the warranty was worth every penny!!

Default I had a 3/36k no deductible but....

On the way home, the finance guy called me & said that GM wouldn't give a zero deductible for an 01 vette anymore & that I had to change to a $50 deductible. Does that sound right? Should I dispute it, since I have it in writing?

That is correct. Once they go out of factory warranty, you can't get a $0 ded warranty.

IMO, the extended warranties are worth it if you plan to keep the car for a reasonable length of time. Especially if the factory warranty has expired.

I have the GM 3/36 with $100 deductible for my 00 vert. Best thing I ever did. When you buy a used car, you get a used car. I already replaced a rear seal. It's nice security (to me) to know if anything shows up that I didn't find when I bought it, the warranty will cover it. I think you made a good decision.

If your car is out of the original warranty period, how are you able to buy an extended GM warranty ? My factory warranty expired Feb 04 and the car have only 5600miles and GM will not sell me an extended warranty.

No, not even offered, they simply asked for my VIN number and then replied "your factory warranty expired last Feb., in order to get the extended warranty your car must be under the factory warranty". Do aftermarket warranties have the same rules ?

No they do not. Check www.warrantydirect.com I bought one of these for my 01 coupe just last June. That car had an expired warranty and I now have a 5yr/60k mile warranty that is transferrable to a private party for a small fee should I decide to sell it. I've used it once so far and there was no problem at alll.

I got the same type of warreny http://www.warrentywarehouse.com/, I got a bumper to bumper 7yr/100k mile for $1800.00. That's alot more miles and alot more time for alot less money then the aftermarket warrenty the dealer offered.

The reason I got the GMPP is becuase there are many places, including dealers, that want you to pay first and get reimbursed from your aftermarket warranty company. With GMPP, there is no question. They can handle the whole thing and if you have the $0 ded, nothing ever comes out of your pocket. I had experienced this very thing with the aftermarket warranties before.

I don't think you made a mistake buying an extended warranty . I wasn't aware that you could buy a "bumper to bumper" warranty, are you sure that's what you got?

I'm under the impression that the extended warranty was primarily a mechanical breakdown policy, and didn't cover things like trim, paint, etc. Is it the same as the original 3/36 warranty offered?

Here's a link to their web site....http://www.gmprotectionplan.com/faqs.cgi

From the looks of things the Major Guard covers the mechanical aspects, and wouldn't cover a lot of the things the original 3/36 did.

JMHO, of course!

You did not make a mistake for buying the GMPP...In fact it was the best thing you could have done.

Don't touch these things with a ten foot pole! Aftermarket warranties are Garbage!!! The might cover something once, or twice, if you're lucky. Aftermarket warranty companies come and go as fast as you can blink an eye, and there is nothing you can do. If you fork over $2K for a Warranty and the company goes under in a couple months, or year, you get NOTHING!!!!!
I don't think saving $100 or soemthing stupid like that is worth the risk, and Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't forsee GM going out of business anytime soon!

PM me If you guys need a GMPP....I can't post any info in the threads, but we can talk privately!
thanks.
Sam.

I have never had a problem with these guy's. The warrenty already paid for itself and I still have another 6 years and 65k miles to go. They are also reinsured by the 5th largerst insurer in the world. Im sure your angry because they probably take alot of money out of your pocket!!
