I have the rattle you mention. Mine seems to come from "inside" the pipes too. Mostly during decel, or during reving. Someone mentioned it might be the sound of the rocker rollers amplified thru the exhaust. I've had the car up and couldn't replicate the sound by shaking the exhaust system, so it seems to be something other than a loose fitting somewhere. anyone else have a guess?

You will probably need to use a Stethoscope while it is running to pin point the orign of the rattle. I was fortunate to have a good friend who owns a dyno shop. We checked with a Stethoscope while it was on the dyno and narrowed it down to number 7 cylinder.

That is what I've been going round and round with GM on repairing the bearing and oil pump O rings. My "rattle" is coming from the bottom of the cylinder which indicates it could be a bearing knock. I'm having an issue with lost of oil pressure during acceleration.
Have checked you exhaust gaskets? If they're good, it could be the valve train making noise. Depending on how loud it is, a dealer may tell you that it is normal.
The GM Vette mechanic looked at my car for quite a few minutes on the lift while I rev'ed the engine slightly off idle. He ordered a new exhaust so we'll find out soon. I'm not sure if he used a stethoscope or not I didn't ask, but he checked it pretty thoroughly it seemed.

Would you mind keeping me posted on your results?
