nothing worse than upstaging (blowing by) a MB Driver with a cheap american car .
You callin' corvettes CHEAP?
He didn't mention what kind of mercedes it was but the only time I was on the autobahn, there was nothing more than 190E, a few 420SEL's and some bimmers. The only car I saw worth a damn was a Countach which incidently blew by us running probably close to 200mph in a downpour.
You could get your speed fix by doing Open Road Racing. The entry fee and safety gear is expensive, but you could do those autobahn speeds for almost 100 miles legally. I'll be doing my first ORR later this year.
I am definitely going to have to get a pass from she who must be obeyed and head across the border one day, before they put limits on the A-bahns.
Until then I shall just have to comfort myself with the rigid enforcement of my number one rule of Corvette driving:
"Whenever thou drivest the Corvette thou shalt exceed 100mph at least once before thou returnest to thine garage".
Termed this way because it is about as close to a religious experience as I am going to get on the road!
Obviously I have to be extremely careful about avoiding the local plod, who will confiscate and crush a car caught going at even such a modest speed. Harsh, but then they only speed trap straight roads, and where's the fun in going fast on a straight road?
my only complaint about the experience was the road and wind noise
My wife and I were yelling at each other. But I guess I could not here her telling me to slow down either. That might be a good thing
I would like to take some driving classes when I return to the states. I have been biten by the speed bug
Enroll in Farschule. It was the best money I spent when I was over there. (pick a good one BTW) Join the ADAC.
Keep in mind that while it is fun to blast down the autobahn, the best roads are the little ones that wind through the forests, and many of them will have an end restriction sign posted...keep an eye out. My favorite areas were the Swartzwald, southern Bayerisch (Stuttgart to Munchen, south along the Austrian border) drive through Garmish Partenkirschen to Berchtesgaden....and drive the Rosefeld Ring Strasse in Berchtesgaden up toward the Eagle's Nest. (go there too)!
Sorry 'bout my spelling...German grammer was not my forte.
I believe we have 2 no limits roads in the USA. If memory serves, one is in Nevada and the other one is in Montana. Most of the domestic car manufacturers were pushing for that!!
And they were approved during the Clinton era I think
