first off .. this has been discussed lately and even though the forum search function isn't all that great you should still be able to look up things.
that said ..
i'm at 9,000 miles on this oil change .. some recommend changing the filters in between oil changes (i.e. every 4000 or so .. ) .. but most importantly just watch for when it tells you to change it. You've got an oil life indicator and if you leaf through your manual it'll tell you to follow that or once every year (if you dont drive it)
I'll have to admit that up until a couple of years ago, I was a every 3000 miles kinda guy. Just keeping in line with the "oil is the life of your engine" subscription. After doing a lot of research I have concluded (for myself) that changing your oil that often especially synthetics is just not required. Obviously harsh driving conditions require a more frequent change.
Some people love to spend money. Some people just feel better doing it that often. If you are that type then change it often. The oil companies greatly appreciate all of you. (not being sarcastic )
Everyone change their oil every 10,000.... send me half of the money saved by using your oil for that long. I will insure your engine for a free rebuild for oil related damage (not due to leaks). You use any full synthetic oil.
You save half the differance.... and I get the other half to start building my new house.... You can't lose.
