Default Alternative lift pads ?

I just received my set of GHL Bullets and plan on installing them. I've been researching here how to do it. I bought a 3 1/2 ton floor jack and jack stands at Sears (on sale for $75).

Is it OK to use a 2 X 4 with an eyebolt screwed in for a lift pad, instead of the hockey pucks? Or how about a 1" piece of aluminum. As long as it fits between the body panels underneath, I can't see why that wouldn't suffice. Just looking for an easier option cause I don't have any pucks, but obviously don't want to do something unsafe.

What do you think?

Thanks...

I was thinking the same...only the 2x4 would leave less clearance for the jack, 1" alum should be fine imo

Sure you can, just as you said as long as it fits in between the body panels. Guys use hockey pucks too!

How do you guys use these pads? Even with my really lower alum. jack, I couldn't possibly squeeze those pads between the car and jack.

Do they make thinner ones? How thick are these actually?

Thanks,

Mark

I use a 1 x 2 board cut to fit, no eye bolt.
I have the same jack & stands from Sears, they work great!
Take your time & you will do fine.

I plan on using it between the jackstand and under the car, at the hoist points. I'll use the jack to lift the azz end first...

I have the Elite Engineering pads and you can't beat their price of 4 shipped for $39.99!

I've got to get some of those. Helluva price for a fine product. This is one of the few products that doesn't come with the Vette tax.

The best and cheapest lift pads for C5 are the ones for BMW. They fit perfectly, cost me $6.50 a pad at my local BMW dealer. They are low profile and can be left on full time without being seen from the side of the car. Don't waste your money on $60-80 set of pucks for the C5

I use the ones for a BMW... They are about 10 bucks apiece and stay on the car.

I use 4 ramps all the time so clearance is never a problem. I drive up on the front 2 ramps and then lift the back onto the back ramps. If I need extra height to remove a tire it is now easy to get the low profile jack underneath the car using a piece of wood between the jack and the car.

I also feel this is safe because the ramps are supporting all the weight - though I still use floor jacks because I don't trust anything so having the hockey pucks are still needed....

Sounds like you need a "racing jack" that will lower futher. Mine fits with no problem at all.

In a pinch, just about anything that won't scratch the finish will work fine - I've even used a piece of folded cardboard box with no ill effects. All you're trying to accomplish is to prevent direct contact of the jack with the rocker panel.
