Check out the news article at http://www.law.com/jsp/article.jsp?id=1105364095740 about police seizing the "Black Box" out of a wrecked Vette for evidence against its owner. I'm afraid this is the start of an avalanche of seizures by police of evidence of wrong-doing contained in these "black boxes". Moral of the story: Don't do anything stupid with your Vette.
What I want to know is, what the heck was a 16 year old (he was about 16 at the time according to the timelines in the article) doing driving a new (at the time) vette?????
If his parents let him drive it with their permission they were nuts!
It won't be long before the police carry a small hand held computer . That will plug into an external plug on your car, and will be able to write you a ticket for sonething you did last week. This will make radar , and radar detectors a thing of the past. Oh yeah Big Brother is watching us.
BTW, this was a terrible tragedy, but it makes me feel pretty good about the safety of the C5 to know someone has wrecked into a 4000lb SUV at 130mph and lived....
I live 5 miles from where this accident happened and it doesnt surprise
me at all. Most kids who live out in this section of Nassau county are spoiled rich brats!!!!!!!!!!! This kid had no right to be driving this car at 17 his parent who owns the car is just as guilty as he is!!!!!!!!! Anyone who would give a 17 year old a car like this to joy ride in especially at night on this stretch of road where drag racing is a weekend hobbie is NUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't see much differenct between a plane and a car. In each case it is helpfull to determine what caused the accident. What if the jeep had been at fault and cut the corvette in half - now you have proof!
On the otherhand if I'm the stupid one then I expect to pay the price.
I dont know if this was just a coincidence or the way it was actually designed, but my friend wrecked his highly modified 98 Mustang GT. The speedometer froze at the speed that the impact occured at. The impact happened at about 80mph AFTER about 130ft of braking Just to give you an idea of how fast he was going before he started braking.
Does anyone know if the speedometer was designed to do this, or was it just the force of the impact that froze it?
Here are a couple pics. Be careful guys.
