My '98 MN6 turns without the key, so I'm assuming the CLB was installed before I bought the car. When I got the recall notice, I pitched it. I have no plans to take the car into the dealer for anything - so for me it's a "non-issue".
Never had a problem with my 2000 A4 or 2003 Z06 (and can't have it anymore with my 2004 A4, yay!) I did see the "Remove key, wait 10 seconds" once on the 2000 but it never reoccured.

I had the problem several times on my '99 but did not install a CLB - traded the car off before I addressed the issue. Not had it happen to my '00, but I have the CLB and the recall done on it.
I have helped a friend with a column lock using the TechTip for overcoming a locked column and it worked the very first time I tried. He's had no problems since.

I thought the same thing until my CL froze in the locked position. NOTHING worked to free it up. I tried every method suggested here in this forum. The actuator totally failed in the locked position and was replaced. My advice is to save yourself a flatbed trip expense and INSTALL THE BYPASS ASAP!
98 MN6, locked up on me and my wife (yes her first time in the car). Luckly it "broke" loose after about 15mins in 100 degree Orlando heat. I purchased the CLB unit and installed it ASAP. I have since received the recall notice in the mail and I keep it in a file to laugh. BTW- my wife finally got back in the car when I assured her that it would not happen again.
I Have The Envelope With The Notice On My Desk, I Look At It Everyday Wondering Should I Or Shouldn't I? I Am Not A Lucky Person By Nature. Almost Like Playing "wheel Of Fortune" Everyday Huh?
I received the message on the DIC quite awile ago and decided not to take chances. If you have been on this forum for a few years, then you should be able to remember the Tow stories from the owners that did take chances.
Mine is a 2002 with 30k on it and I will be putting on the harness K in the spring when I do the gauge bezels. I am not going to wait till I get that damn message on my DIC.
My '97 is the 303rd C5 (built 11/96). I put the Thunder Racing CLB in at 64,000miles and now have 93,000. No problem before (although I did get a DIC message with no lockup) and no problem since. By the way, someone tonite in another thread said the C5 gets better with age - that has certainly been my experience. It's running better than ever (religiously self maintained) except for a few of the "classic" C5 bugaboos!
have 99 coupe with 35,000 miles (bought it from original owner with 30,000 miles. Checked with Chevy dealer and nothing had been done to it. The parts manager is a vette mechanic and a member of the our local corvette club. He ordered the appropriate wiring kit that prevents the cam from locking. Seems to have worked.
