I had a 99 Formula and now a 00 Vette. If you can hook up out of the hole you will walk him pretty easily. Those cars do hook up better than the vette's in a straight line because of the solid rear axle. It would be better if you could run him from a role.

Oh, I was going to tell you that I raced a 2001 vette back when I had my Formula from a standing stop and beat him to 80 by a half car length. Then he started to walk by me.

are both your car's stock? if not what mods? Do you have hp figures on either vehicle? If both are stock your vette should run at around mid 13s and his in the 14s somewhere. That car is not very fast

14's!!! Are you nuts. Those WS6's are basically just as fast as any C5. It will come down to the driver if both cars are stock.

got to love the "typical vette" owner responses here!! most of which have never raced before.

C5 is a great car. way better than the WS6. but much faster stock vs stock??? i dont think so.

both cars can run mid 13's, the vette prolly even a little faster. but .1-.2 tenths is something that can result from the ability of the driver.

now after saying that... you will most likely win. but dont be cocky about it. vettes do lose races!

Should be a drivers race if all stock. Check and make sure what mods he has for sure.

My stock '96 WS6 A4, which came with the LT1, was a 14 sec car @ 101 MPH in stock trim on the stock Goodyear GSC's. My '99 C5 A4 ran a 13.7 @ 103 MPH in stock trim. I'm sure that the LS1 WS6's are at least .5 to .7 quicker than my '96 LT1. In stock trim it will be very, very close. You need more distance to take him.

I owned a 2001 WS6 before my 2001 vert, and through the 1/4 mile they are close (if both are stock). As mentioned, a drivers race.

...easy on the crack pipe.

Just to clear things up a little, I'm currently the owner/driver of an '02 Z28, A4. Same motor and transmission as the aforementioned '02 WS6. BONE STOCK, my car ran 13.4 @ 105.8, on street tires (crappy street tires, I might add). There are faster LS1's than mine, and some slower. With 4.10 gears, better tires, and the airbox lid I've got on my car, it ran 13.02 @ 107. The times I've run are not uncommon for any LS1 F-body, regardless of A4 or M6 (it comes down to the driver in a lot of cases).

...speaking of drivers, I saw a Z06 at the track one time running 13.20's (he either couldn't hook up, or couldn't drive?! ).

SO, if the guy at your school has done some work to his LS1, and if you haven't done work to your C5, be prepared to see tail-lights. He may just have a faster car than you.

Now I'm not trying to be an advocate for F-bodies and bash 'Vettes by saying this, because I'm currently looking at upgrading my Z28 to a C5 Z06. I respect BOTH cars equally. I just can't stand hearing un-informed being spread.

My friend has a WS6 with drag radials. He consistantly runs 13.4s(with a M6). His car launches much better than my c5 with EMTs. Don't be surprised if the race is very close.

I owned an MN6 2002 WS6...if you don't hook up from a dig, he could beat you. However, you are both automatics..so it may be a good race.

You also mentioned its an SLP. I thought those had a few performance tweaks. If so, it may not be a cakewalk for the Vette if its a "real" SLP version.
