Default Halltech Stinger Issues

Here's my review:

Great looking intake, huge filter, install was straightforward and very simple.

For some reason mine was rubbing on the hood liner pushing the hood up a little at the front. This doesn't really bother me.

First time I started the car after the install I could hear air going into the filter over my Borla Stingers. Love it.

Took the car for a drive and it didn't seem like there was any Seat of the pants difference. I also noted that the car seemed to be running rich since the install. I drove close to 100 miles and brought the car home. Later that night I decided to check to see if I had any codes (No SES light ever appeared) sure enough and regrettably I had two codes: Lean Bank one and Lean Bank two. I decide to go through the connections and tighten them all down again. Everything seemed to be seated properly and the clamps seemed to need a little tightening.

Fire the car back up after tightening everything up and the codes went away.

The next day I decide to go for another 100 mile ride out into the desert. Just to make sure that I didn't have any issues. I repeatedly checked for codes along the way and none popped up.

When I got home I decide to see what it looked like on EFI live. Start logging data and notice that my Long Term Fuel trims are steadily rising. They continued to rise all the way up to 25 %. I decide to check the connections again and then re log the data. Sure enough the LTFT's are still at + 25%.

Obviously, there is some sort of problem. I decide to put my Stock intake system back on and log with EFI Live. As soon as I start the car the LTFT's bottom out just about +0 at idle.

Very disappointing. I want this intake on the car! I'm all about more air but I won't risk dumping a bunch of fuel and washing out my rings. Especially on a car that has 8K on the clock.

What should I do?

A good engine tuner can cure this....I think, unless its a tiny leak causing this. I have not noted any codes with my Haltech install. Getting a good seal at the MAF to the tube was hard...Look there first. One thing I did was to scrape down the mold lines that run the length of the air bridge tube near the ends, It is possible that a tiny air leak may be happening at the ridge on the mold line.

A leak in the air bridge or the smooth coupler had crossed my mind. Seems like it would be really difficult to detect though. Thanks

Perhaps the hoodliner pushing on the bridge causes the air leak after you close the hood? I suppose you did the EFI live with the hood up? Just thought the pushing might cause a distortion in the coupler fitting that isn't there without that pressure.

Nick,

02-04 Z06s are notorious for throwing lean codes after a very high-flowing intake is installed. Some Z06 owners have installed an MAF screen to allow a more laminar flow of air to reach the sensor wires and others have had their engines tuned for additional A/F correction and extra power. I'm afraid that the Halltech is flowing more than your car's computer can handle without that screen. Coupes and verts have MAF screens, so there are rarely any issues with these types.
