From what I hear no... the speed sensor on our cars is based on the ring gear and how fast it's spinning... it'll automatically adjust.
On a side note I think you're crazy putting 4.10's in a Z... in a coupe yes, but the Z06 gearing is allready short. Also, you'll need at least Drag Radials to get any traction in 1-3rd gears.

Good luck!
I tend to agree. 4.10 are very aggressive for the M12 gear ratios. An M6 with 4.10's is darn near the same as a Z, you'll be in "Oh My God, What have I done!" land.
Ok, but as an earlier poster noted, how the heck do you get any traction? My stock Z06 is deficient traction-wise with 3.42's, I can't even imagine what it would be like with 4.10's.
I guess it depends upon what you plan on doing with your car. Drag racing? Probably makes sense. Track driving? Nah, I have more torque than I can handle hammering-down at the apex now, 4.10's would just make it worse and force me to shift more often. Street driving? Personal choice I guess, though clouds of tire smoke sure is fun
I have most of my fun at the drag strip. Talked to a few others at the track with Z06s 2 had 3.90s in theirs and said they wished they would have gone to 4.10s. Heck if its only about $300 to put them in I'll try em out. I'm not selling the 3.42s so if I can't stand them I can always swap back. Oh and another not.. the stock rubber sucks in my opinion. I switched to Toyos and have been very happy with them.
I actually think the 4.10s are a sensible road racing mod as well. Here's my logic: The 19.8% gearing increase is very similar to gear ratio spacing, the effect being that you simply move up one gear in each speed range, but have better "legs". For example, 35-70 acceleration takes place in 2nd...and I often find myself wishing 2nd had longer legs. The 4.10s means you would now be working in 3rd, except you have longer legs now since you top that gear out at 85mph or so. On the highway, I am always hitting the limiter at the top of 3rd, around 104mph. Using 4th now, you get similar acceleration in that speed range but you have 120mph to work with. That also benefits 1/4milers since they get better torque 1 thru 4 and still stay in 4th as they go thru the traps.
It also means the car doesn't fall on its face when you engage 5th, and I think, after many calculation I won't bore you guys with here, that the Z would see a top speed benefit as well. I figure you might see 180-185 in sixth, if you can get 380RWHP out of the motor.
The question is, is there any traction in 1st? With the F1s. definitely not. But with the Nitto R2s...?????
Obviously, the above applies to basically stock motors and is the poor man's replacement to head/cam or SC mods. Also, no gearset is perfect under all conditions or for all tracks. But for the driving and tracks I frequent here out in Cali, I think 4.10s just might be the ticket.

4.10's are horribly bad for road racing... the gearing is now much shorter and you are shifting a whole bunch more. I was at a VIR event w/ a guy in a Z06 w/ 4.10's he was shifting so dang much and having to stay way up in the revs that his oil temp spiked at 320 in no time. Post up this in the road racing forum and I guarantee everyone will tell you 3.42's are the gears for HPDE's.
Thats cool Cobra, I just don't do that much road racing. I grew up at a drag strip so thats pretty much always been my thing. You know what they say, different strokes for different folks. Like I said before, I can always swap them back its not a perminent mod.

Well that's not a good thing at all. Was he an experienced driver and did all the shifting seem justified to you? I ask because first time autoxing, I rode with a guy who was shifting like mad, always at redline etc. etc. I hopped into another car later that day with the fastest guy there, same car. He shifted half as much, let the torque do the work, and was a whopping 6 sec faster thatn the other dude on a 1 mn course.
Nevertheless, I'll take your eposide seriously..because I would hate to screw up the way the car drives at the track. I'll see next event if I can get a ride in a 4.10 car. Then again, maybe I won't find one
I think 4.10's are to low for street use... I got a 3.73 I have raced a Z with a 4.10, It was strong untill 3rd... I even got the jump out on him and he held it toi my 3rd gear run off!

Was this at the track or just messing around on the street? If it was on the track what were your slip numbers?

I agree been there and done that but don't expect any traction in the first 2 gears on the street with stock F1s, but then again that's half the fun and oh yeah, be prepared to shift twice as quickly but this biatch will haul azz with 4.10s!!!!!!!!!!
PS-Life is short, grab it by the ***** and go for the gusto!!!!

I thought about going 4:10's as well - strickly street use. I probably will not put my car on the strip or track, but enjoy laying into first and second gear. I just like sliding around and spinning it up a little. I don't think the car has ever been in 6th gear.

this car has a 6th gear???? haha joking. I know what you mean. I put it in 6th when I take long interstate drives but thats about it.
Seriously... ask this same question in the road racing forum. They'll tell it how it is for tracking (this is directed to TTRotary). If just want a tire roaster then sure go 4.10's.
This race was on the street.. From a second gear roll about 40mph... He got smoked..
He must have had trouble driving, I find that a little hard to believe. Most of the Z06s I race at the track with are running 3.90s or 4.10s and their 60ft, 1/8 and 1/4 times and speed are alot better then the cars with stock 3.42s.
