Curious as to what Evil-Twin and Mike Mercury may think of this as an alternative to Frost King or Reflectix.

It looks pretty good. I like the fact that it isn't stuck down. I wouldn't ever want to take Dynamat out.

I'm sure ET will chime in to tell you his opinion but let me just say this; when ET did the weeks and weeks of engineering research to come up with his "Frost King" sound insulation package, he never said it was the absolute best way to quieten the interior of a Corvette.

He said it was the best way to do it ECONOMICALLY.

I took that to mean that if you wanted to spend double or triple the amount of money that the Frost King method does, you might improve on it somewhat. However, given the results I've heard about here on the forum, I don't know if you really get much out of more expensive methods. I'm sure there's SOME advantage to spending nearly a grand on Dynamat Extreme, but from what I've heard, it ain't worth the eigh hundred bucks or so more that it costs.

For my money, ET's mod is still the best bang for the buck you can do.

That stuff looks good, unfortunately manufacturers claims are sometimes suspect... Note the extravagant HP gains claimed by some manufacturers... with out some real time in the test chamber and some data, I cant not say .. But anything is better than nothing.. MY concerns were: best value in noise and heat reduction for the money,
light weight, and easily reversible..

I used Frostking Insulation and found it excellent at $7.00 a roll. One roll did my entire cargo bay. I thought it killed 80% of the unwanted road noise caused by run flats bouncing over the pavement and drumbing heavily over the wide cargo floor.

There is no noise coming from the front wheels and if you double the insulaltion over the wheels wells, you will make it even quieter.

it's thicker (as mentioned earlier). That may work better for noise reduction but then may not allow the carpeting to lay back down all that well.

Is it adhesive backed?

The 4 foot width looks promising.
Hey Bill, what width is the Reflectix roll?

Where'd you get it for 7bux a roll? I paid double that! I used about 3 rolls in the rear cargo bay. What size rolls were those?

I can't see 3/8th's of an inch making it easy to re-install the carpet, esepcially around the consol and the seats.

I saw what looks like the same or similar thing at Pep Boys for $19.99. It also looks very similar to some of the hot water heater insulation you can buy at Home Depot and other like places for around $20. I too would have some concern about the thickness and getting your car's carpet to lay back down properly.

Dynamat Xtreme doesn't coast a grand to do the whole car, more like $180 bucks, which is still expensive, but not outrageous. I did the entire passenger cabin area and the entire rear trunk area for that much...

CULookin, if you can get enough Dynamat Extreme to cover the whole interior (same as our kit) for $180 I'll send you a check for $100 just for the info on where to get the material - if it's legit. I've priced Dynamat Extreme, and in order to do the same amount of coverage as our pre-cut kit it would be A LOT more than $180! Even at wholesale bulk pricing we're talking more than double that before cutting it....

Let me know!

The best price I've EVER seen on the Dynamat is on ebay and there are about half a dozen people that sell it for pretty much the same price. It is usually about $100 plus $30 shipping for the kit that is 36sq ft.

I am guessing that you would need at least 2 of those kits and even then it probably wouldnt be enough to do everything. I figure its got to be about $400 for the Dynamat to do the entire interior.

I'll be using the kit that Dan sells, its much cheaper, just a effective and pre-cut for easy install.

That looks like the same stuff Dan uses in his kits. I installed one of his kits in my coupe, and it sure helps, although I might still do the wheel wells as outlined by ET and Mike-Mercury.

I didn't think the Cowboys material was 3/8" thick though ???

It cant be the same because cowboy's material is 3/16 so this stuff is twice the thickness but it also doesn't have any adhesive, which would prob. add more time to install. what do you guys think the total thickness is that we could use before we have problems like Mike said with getting the carpet back in correctly. Evil-twin your the data guy can you understand all that sound data? in other words are those test results anything to brag about in comparison to other products.

I wouldn't worry about 3/8 inch in the rear hatchback area. It will fit ok. In the cockpit, it could cause trouble with the seat rubbing on the tunnel, etc.

I used Dynamat extreme, 2 bulk packs, 72 sq.ft to single layer cover my rear hatch area, the cockpit, and the rear wheel wells. I had one full sheet left over (out of 18 in 2 bulk packs). The Dynamat Extreme cost $234 total...$88 each bulk pack plus shipping (bought on E-Bay).

I then used 3/8 inch thick B-Quiet Vcomp in the rear hatch area...two rolls (each is 13.5 sq.ft) to put over the Dynamat. The Vcomp cost $55 per roll...about $130 total with shipping. The rear carpet re-installed without difficulty...though I kept 1/4 inch gap near the speaker housing free to allow the carpet to slide in easily. Check out this link to photos of my B-quiet install over the Dynamat.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=989605

The sound reduction with the Vcomp over the Dynamat was outstanding. I will post my DB reduction when I get the Vette out of hibernation when this winter weather clears.

The Frost King seems to have a thicker, more sound blocking character than Dynamat alone has. The Frost King may reduce sound more than Dynamat alone...though with the addition of Vcomp, the combination is undoubtedly better than Frost King alone.

I thank Evil-Twin and Mike Mercury for their posts for inspiring me to take on this project. I was amazed how well it worked out, and it's really an easy Mod that makes the Vette more enjoyable each time out.

Good luck with which way you go.
