SDWYZ C5, Thanks for the reply. Used is >7500 miles. The web site for Ca DMV website shows both the FEDERAL 50 state sticker and the Federal 50 + California. Either >7500 miles or the California word are legal.
Hope this thread helps those in search of cars outside Ca.
Back in Sept. 2000, I bought a new 2001 Z06 from an out of state dealer. The car didn't have the proper emissions sticker. There was a recall for it and I got it later. Even if it had it, the DMV told me I had to have the car smogged to be able able to register it since It didn't come from a CA dealer. So that's what I did. Maybe things have changed since 2000.
I thought the 7500 miles or 6 months use was the threshold for the state to consider it a used car.
You are correct my new 2004 Z06 CE from the dealer must be smogged within 20 days of delivery here.
If I read the web site correctly the 6 month or 1 year exemption is gone.
I quote from the Health and Safety Code 43151(a):
"California law prohibits importing ans/ or registering a new vehicle (less than 7500 miles at the time of purchase) unless it meets or exempt from California emission standards. If you acquire a 49-state vehicle (manufactured for all states except California) from another state or country and do not qualify for one of the exemptions, you cannot register your vehicle and must immediately remove it from this state. You may purchase a One-Trip Permit to so".
