I assume you have an aftermarket stereo. The reason is for coupes we have 2 antennas, one in the front glass the other in the rear. The OEM radio communicates with a box thats under your lap belt anchor to tell it which antenna to switch to that has better reception (diversity reception). Without this data from the OE headunit, it will try to receive both at the same time which = alot of multipath and cancellation.
My FM is marginal in the city but even worse out where I live. My clockradio picks up more stations. AM is practically non existant. Even worse is when I turn on the rear defrost everything just goes to static.
The solution to this is to either A) put in a whip style antenna from a vert or FRC/z06, or to use a different style antenna in the rear bumper. I ordered one and will let everybody know the results.
