This question comes up real often, so be prepared for some responses for you to do a search. But since the search function isn't working very well I will give you my opinion:
I installed the Hurst Billet Plus shifter in my '99 with the Hurst Classic black round ****. I chose the Hurst because I had done the same upgrade to my previous '96 Corvette. Very easy installation! MUCH improved shifting characteristics over the SLOPPY stock shifter!! And I like the classic feel of the round ****. You can't go wrong with the Hurst!!
Now with that said, I think that any name brand aftermarket shifter would be a vast improvement. Try to find someone in your area that has an aftermarket shifter and try it out. You can't go wrong with any one that you choose!!
I chose the angled BPP shifter, as it is the most adjustable (for individual physiques) short-throw shifter on the planet. Since I wasn't thrilled with the aftermarket shift ***** and their prices, I decided to design and cast my own. You can see it at www.conceptualpolymer.com

B&M Ripper and stock **** for me too. Planning on a VE interior with the matching leather ****. Besides, living in Arizona, I'm concerned with having a **** with metal on it. I can't imagine how I'd shift after the car has been sitting in the sun for a few hours.....with an oven mit?
I love my Hurst Shifter - it has great positive feel and adjustability! I also like my Black 8-ball like shifter with the 6 speed pattern on it - It reminds my of the white ball shifter I had on my '69
I've never used a hurst. Most F-body and Y-body ppl around here seem to use the ripper or they gut the orig shifter and put a short stick on it...
I have had both Hurst and B&M in Fbodies. (Still have an SS w/B&M). I much prefered the B&M in them. The B&M had a much tighter and surer feel. BUT, my Hurst in the C5 is far better than either of them. You just can't use the F-body for a valid comparison to the C5 Hurst.
