I ordered Kooks long tubes with high flow cats. I'm wondering how hard there are to install myself. I read before only the passenger side is hard to get in. I have a shop to work with and all the tools. Does any one have step by step instructions?
Check out the treads in C5 Tech. You can do a search and find out more than you want to know. You can install the favorite brand headers Kooks, LG, SuperMaxx, Stainless Works without having to cut or weld. Step by Step instructions can be found at www.ls1howto.com I installed my SuperMaxx headers and was glad I did once the job was done. Would I do it again? YES! You do need to get the car up in the air but then I have a lift in my garage. Good Luck!
Yes, you can do it yourself. Not that difficult at all. I even did it with only one jack and one jackstand. Just take your time, dont try to take any shortcuts, and you'll knock it out in no time. If you were ever up in the Dallas area, I'd help ya out....

Careful there buddy cause I just may show up in your garage seeking help! I live in Frisco too! LOL! BTW, how complete is the kit? Do I need to go on a wild goose chase for anything? Any welding required? And my plan is on going with the 1 7/8 with the off roads.

Very good information at http://ls1howto.com/index.php?article=17
Even though they are FLPs the basics are the same. You will have to remove the same stuff plus you will have to slightly raise the engine and push it to one side. I am talking inches here.
Disconnect the air bridge when you go to jack the engine and remember, you are only taking it up a few inches.
This one is a bit old and came out before the driver's side KOOKS header revision which made the install considerably easier. Also, the Motor mount bolts should be loosend from underneath the car down to the last few threads, as opposed to what is shown in these pictures. This will allow you to raise the engine a few inches to get the headers in.
This one shows the motor mount bolts loosened from the bottom. Loosen them to the last few threads to allow raising the engine but DO NOT remove them.
I concure with the above posts, it is not difficult but does take some time.
They do come with instructions but they leave alot to be desired.
You will not need to weld anything. Everything you need is included.
Keep some band aids close by, you'll need them
I did not remove the starter or the alternator bracket. The alternator bracked comes in hands because you can wedge a crowbar in it to help lift the engine when putting in the drivers side header.
While I did not remove the starter I would recommend you do it, mine is all scratched up now
Good luck and stick by your PC, we'll give you advice if you get stuck.

Do not attempt this install without a good pair of mechanic's gloves or a good pair of winter golf gloves. Otherwise your hands will take a real beating and it won't be long before you will have knicks, cuts and bruises on them if you are an amateur at this .
Do not even think about doing this without removing your starter. And remember to bolt it back up before you tighten up the passenger side header. There is no need to remove the alternator bracket, but you will need to remove a few of the spark plugs.
