column lock confussing
I have read bulletin #04006C which states, this bulletin cancels and replaces bulletin 04006B.
ON page 2 under Correction it states, Dealers are to remove the column lock plate on U.S. vehicles equipped with a manual transmission, after service correction, steering will no longer lock.
Also on page 2 under Vehicles Involved, involved are certain 1997-2004 equiped with a manual transmission built within these VIN breakpoints, my corvette is within these breakpoints.
On page 3 under Important, it says Dearlers should confirm vehicle eligibility, not all vehicles within the above breakpoints may be involved.
I called the Dealer to see if my car was involved, he checked GMVIS and told me no, that my car's recall status was closed, I asked why they are doing some 6 speeds but not all, he didn't have that information.
I called GM custormer care, asked the same question, no answer, All they would say is that my recall status was closed and that GM was concerned about my safety.
Does anyone have an explanation, or in the same boat.

Let me state for the record.
I have been beatin the proverbial dead horse on this one....have been going to severe phone calls/letters to get them to reimburse me the $800 spent on the issue.
They are not worried about anything but THEIR BOTTOM LINE.
Thanks for listening to me vent.
I appreciate this forum more and more.

I took my 2001 in when I received the recall a year or so ago. Since then GM considers the recall "complete" for the vehicle. HOWEVER, a month or so ago, I got the dreaded "Service Column Lock" message and had to have it flatbedded to the dealer. Originally they said since the recall was "complete" that I would have to pay for the service work. To make a long story short, the original recall was done under the first TSB. Since GM has issued further instructions, GM agreed to pay for the work, including pulling the lock plate which was not specified under the original recall. Total cost to me was zero (other than inconvenience).
In other words, once the recall is done, the GM system considers it complete, and even though they issue updated instructions, they will not notify you because your car is considered "done".
