Looking for a good logging program
I'm here from the C4 section, but as I have a 96 its OBD2, so there isn't much info for OBD2 scanning there.
I'm looking for as inexpensive option as possible, but still get good, real time logging from my laptop.
I was looking at PCMscan and the ELMscan 5, but I'm wondering what the consensus is.
I saw HP tuners website shows just the scanning equipment, and not the tuning, but the price and availability have said TBD for a very long time.

When looking at OBD2 scanning software you want to invest in a full featured software that will let you log about 20 minutes worth of information. HPTuners, EFILive, and Ease are the three most complete systems available. The first two are also associated with tuning software and are the most popular. The reason you want to log for 10-20 minutes is some parameters are only reported once a minuter or once every 4 minutes, etc. The more pids you scan the more likely some will not be reported on a regular interval.

If all you're looking for is scanning, you can pick up a leftover EFI Live FlashScan V1 for about $249. Also does up to 20 minutes of black-box logging (No need for PC in car)
