Had a check engine light on my '99. Took it to the dealer, bad air pump. Had air pump replaced--technician said it threw another code-valve hung up, which apparently is tied into the air pump fault code. Flow chart said drive few miles and it would reset. Technician drove it and the code cleared. I picked it up and within 3 miles the light came back on. Any ides as to what would cause this? Car seems to run OK, but I'm worried about driving it with another check engine light. I hate to keep driving it this way.
Need the exact code---you can do a search on the forum on how to pull the codes yourself---or borrow a scanner from someone or have your shop read them for you
I don't know of a "bad air pump" code----
If they replaced the pump and you are still getting some codes--the most common codes are for the secondary air check valves
including: P0410-----P0412----P0418------P1415----P1416

my 2001 is posting P1416 every few days, do you suggest pulling the secondary air valve out and cleaning it? BTW this is the first code I have had bought the car new in 2001.

OK P1416 is for the right side air check valve--You can try to clean it out with brakeclean and re-install--I think that valve is somewhere behind the engine and has some weird routing going on--
2nd i would replace the valve if the codes come back--
Those AIR codes are pesky--as miles add up they just seem to pop up for no reason and you may have to chase them forever--On my 98 i finally just turned OFF all the AIR related code enablers and was done with it !!!
Must have EFILIVE or HP or something silmilar to turn codes permanently off---These cars run so clean smog isn't affectd much even if you removed the entire AIR system--The pump only runs breifly at start up (maybe 5-10 seconds) to help light off the cats--sometimes not at all--
Question about deleting these air pump codes for good
My 2001 Corvette is also throwing a code, P0410. I just bought the car and now it's back at the dealership. After reading up, sounds like my best bet is to let them try and fix it as it's not going to cost me anything. Oregon law, they have to get the car to DEQ I guess.
At any rate, my question is more for down the road, if I wanted to program out these codes all together. If I do this, and I need to DEQ it down the road, will these deleted codes cause the car to fail DEQ? In Oregon they just plug the car in and check for codes.
