why are the stock gm a/c delco wires part #88892763 $109.79, and the red high performance part #12495519, only $49.00? whats the differance, which one should i buy? you would think the performance would be more money anything thats says performance they get more for........... 2000 coupe stock. P.S are those the best prices?
As far as I would say the OEM Delco wire have a lot more resistence in the plug wire themselves. When I changed mine I switched them out and used MSD wires and they measured 5 ohms of resistence in each wire. The Delcos I removed measured an average of 25-25 ohms of resistence each. Plus the MSD wires were alot cheaper !!
After a certain point, getting a thicker gauge wire is pointless as long as the cable is thick enough to carry the power load, and provides little resistance. I can't test it to prove it, but I'm sure all the spark plug cables out there carry power to the plugs just as well as any other cable, at least in measurable terms.
With audio, I see people go overboard all the time. They'll run 10-12 gauge wires for 50 watt speakers. I used to be a mobile deejay, and after getting the recommendations from touring pro-audio guys, I used 27 cent a foot 12-gauge speaker wires to run 1300 watts at 4 ohms to each sub box, and that was RMS power. I could've easily ran another 1000 watts thru the same wires. People also used to make claims that some hyper-exotic cable had cleaner sound, and less resistance, but yet there is not one well conducted double blind test that proves the human ear, or even audio test equipment, can hear the difference between a hyper-exotic cable and lamp power cords. In fact the only reason the pro-audio people I communicated with would buy more expensive cable is if the cable was easier to handle, had shielding, or could take more abuse.
I'd spend extra on spark plug wires if they were durable enough to take many clumsy handling, would consistently latch tightly at both ends, and had decent shielding.
