Hey, I like this thing so far, and am wondering how much it will break in (get smoother, easier to engage in gear) as time goes?
I installed it then had trouble with third, so I loosened the bolts then ran through the gears then retightened, even those couple millimeters seemed to help - 3rd is no problem.
But all the gears are a bit hard to get into - 5&6th are the hardest. Just wondering what to expect as time passes.. Thanks for any replies!
I took mine apart and greased it with a thick bearing grease. I also held the springs with a vise for about 1/2 hour. then I put back together and took her out and I was happier. My wife can even drive it now.
Good luck I hope this helps.
I have this shifter in my car. Shifting up through the gears is like "rowing". Put it in first gear then pull back it's in second, push foward and it's in third, pull back again and it's in fourth. You do not have to "look" for the gears. 1 thru 4 that is. To shift into fifth you have to go slowly and push right at the neutral position. Practice make perfect. No speed shifting into fifth! This shifter works exactly the same as my Hurst super shifter (72 mouse roadster).
I ended up taking it off and returning it. I didnt like the vibration sound it was making so I opted to circumcise 2" off of my stock shifter. Its the feel/throw I was looking for from the start!
There is a little bit of vibration sound coming from the chopped shifter, but its not nearly as bad as the BPP was. I'd say its about 60% less sound. I've heard some foam wrapped around the stock helps quieten it more, but havent tried it yet.
