Default Which Cam?

Guys, I'm contemplating a cam install. Due to budget constraints I won't be able to do the heads at the same time so I want a cam that will satisfy me in the meantime. I was thinking of the Magic Stick, LG5X3 (114) and also heard some good things about the Futural FM-13??? I would like the car to remain streetable (use the AC), I love lope, don't want to have problems with excessive stalling or bucking while cruising at highway speeds and IF I did go with a set of AFR heads in the future do not want to fly-cut pistons. Not sure if I'm asking to much here but would appreciate any feedback or experience.

Get ready for a million opinions.

I have a Comp 224/581/114. Nice lope not wild. Headers will help power also. Great power from 2000-5500rpm. Make sure you get a tune afterwards to get the most out of it.

Good Luck.

In my recent research on the G5X3, it seems that the although streetable, it is not overly friendly below 1,500 rpm's.....

I personally like to cruise at times and would like to avoid the surging, but I would love to gain the overall power/performance of the G5X3.

I guess "I" can't have my cake and eat it too....

Good luck with your search!

I have a 224/228 114 cam and wish I would have went with a 112 or even larger cam all together. Driveability is perfect with this cam and you can still use 5th and 6th gear with no bucking.

The FM13 is a great cam, it makes great power and is VERY street friendly for a big cam. In fact most of Allan Futrals cams are known to make great power and have excellent street manners. The specs are 230/232 595/585 (your choice of LSA). Do a search over on the LS1tech forum, lots of FBody guys are running the FM13. You might want to give Allan Futral a call he is very helpful and really knows his stuff. His web address is

Thanks Mitch. I'm hearing quite a bit on the LG and the Futral but nothing on the Magic Stick. Does anyone know anything about it or has seen it perform? I know Lou keeps his #'s a secret, but is there any speculation on the specifications of the LG cam?

Some people over on LS1Tech claim they have run 10s with the magic stick. It is a very big cam and is not for everybody when it comes to street manners.
