I recently noticed a very small leak of a transparent fluid under the rear end. Additionally, there has been a slight "clunk" coming from the rear end when the car is going around 10mph...like when it downshifts into first gear. It's not all the time, but frequently.
They replaced the seals in the differential, but the clunk sound still occurs, though less frequently. The leak appears to have stopped. When I mentioned that the 'clunk' sound still occurs, they said to drive it for a while so that the newly replaced lubricant could 'coat' the moving parts in the differential. Hmmmmm.
If this clunking noise is some sort of minor joint noise or whatever, fine...but if it's something "internal" I'm concerned.
Just got mine back last week from dealer for simular problem. When shifting into reverse, or lifting my foot off accelerater at around 20mph, I would hear a clunk from rear. Turned out to be the right rear wheel hub. I was told that where the axle attaches there was excessive play, and it was moving slightly. They replaced the hub. My extended warranty covered this, the charge was $700. Anyway, took a while to figure out and a few trips to the dealer.
Also previously had my diff fluid changed because I had the leak and though the noise may have been due to low fluid levels, when they refilled it , they left the addative out. The noise from that was very distinct, when turning slowly it sounded like grinding / clicking noise. You would know if the Posi addative was left out. I am told for performace reasons some people choose to run without this addative...cant image listening to that noise all the time.
