Default Coolant Smell Under Hood

Hey guys,
Just a small question here. I often get a whiff of coolant smell sometimes from outside my car and mostly when I open the hood and look around after driving around. There are no coolant leaks under the car and my coolant resevoir level never goes down. The heater core doesn't smell like its leaking coolant either. So, my question is, do you guys get a small whiff of coolant under the hood too even if you have no leakage anywhere? I did just fix a small coolant leak from the water pump with half of a GM stop leak tablet, and my best guess is that I'm smelling the remains of the leakage on the block. Hopefully my head gasket isn't leaking or anything else big like that... Shouldn't be at 44k miles. Thanks for any insight you can offer!

NO, never smell coolant anywhere. It could be residual or it could be the smallest of leaks that wouldn't show up even no apparent loss of fluid. More than likely it is the remains the leak you had. Good luck.

Might check your radiator cap (or coolant cap). I just had the same issue with a 02 Sierra, and that is what the dealership found, and replaced. All is well now. The other option would be to do a dye test. Since that system is sealed, there really shouldn't be an escape route for odor.

Double check your water pump, I had the same problem, but I couldn't find out where it was coming from. Just a drip from the Water pump. Finally found out about a month later when the drip became a huge problem.
